O/S Daily Tuesday 28th November 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here but not raining, and sounds like the wind has died down.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was pork steaks, new potatoes, small amount of LO mash, LO cauli/broc cheese, peas, LO yorkshires and gravy - all LO's used up and nothing thrown away, tonight dinner will be sausages, egg, beans and chips or fish, chips and beans haven't decided yet.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got majority of the "to do" list completed, and I did finish up doing stuff that wasn't on the list too. I didn't get the ironing done or get the xmas puds made and steamed, the fruit has all been soaking for several days, but they take ages as they need to steam for 3 hours each (the recipe makes 2) and I only have enough room in the pressure cooker to steam them one at once, so after I'd made the xmas cake yesterday and did other jobs I ran out of time, but they will get made at the end of the week when I'm on days' off. I'm reasonably happy with what I got done yesterday so not too bad, and I'm on days' off from Wednesday afternoon until Monday - and I'm not working a Saturday until 23 December, unless someone wants swap or get rid of a Saturday before then.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
I didn't sleep very well last night but I am going to make a cuppa and some breakfast in a minute to help me wake up properly.
Steve has just left for work and the girls are still asleep. I have to travel to Becky's hospital this morning as there is going to be a big meeting to discuss her care and I am invited to attend. My sister was going to take me but the poor thing has come down with pleurisy so is on bed rest for the week. Fortunately Jemima isn't working today so she can take me instead.
Becky came home for the night on Friday and it went a bit better than last time. She mostly stayed in her room though so we didn't actually see much of her. I don't know if she will be coming home this week for any leave. I guess I will find out today. I miss her so much it is actually a painful feeling. She is in my thoughts all day and I dream about her at night.
I have some open the box and chuck it in the oven food for tonight. I believe it is salmon en croute so I will peel some potatoes and cook some green beans to go with them. At least I will be back before it gets dark today.
Right, I need to go and get washed and dressed as it is very cold. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all, gosh it has gone cold! I'm resisting putting on the heating, I mostly resist until about lunchtime if I'm at home but not sure if I'll be able to hold out today.
The other thing I'm resisting is a shower in the cold bathroom, the two things are linked. I'll have to bite the bullet though, as I need to go out later.
This is not a difficult house to heat but I do try to be reasonably economical with gas. I don't need it to be tropical.
I've just done the last bit of mould treatment in the bathroom, until it all comes back of course and now it reeks of bleach, or in the words of my friend, has a lovely fresh smell. Better that than the smell of damp though.
I need toast, will pop back later to see how everyone is getting on, have a good day, all.
Dumpling, I hope all goes well xxI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
Well my walk into town yesterday didn’t go according to plan. By the time I got home I could hardly walk with the pain from my knee. I sat down with a cup of coffee when I got back and it was too painful to stand up so I phoned the surgery to see if I could see the nurse. She had a look at it and got my GP and it turns out that it is infected. So I now have some antibiotic cream. Hopefully it will clear up quickly.
It does mean that I’ve got a good excuse not to do any housework at the moment though, because I can’t stand up long enough. I’m becoming really acquainted with my sofa at the moment though.
So today, meals will be anything that doesn’t require standing up for long, like beans on toast or crumpets. I think that I have a couple of microwave meals in the freezer so I will be able to use them.
Hugs to everyone else who is poorly at the moment and struggling.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels a bit nippier here too but no sign of frost despite the starry starry skies. And, more important, no children here this morning so enjoying my coffee in peace!
Our Tuesday away-day has been scuppered thanks to the doctor giving Mr TA a telephone appointment "around lunchtime". He does have a named doctor so why this unknown one has decided to barge in I don't know. If there is any mention of stopping the Oramorph, or offering a cheaper alternative, there will be harsh words spoken.
After he (I or we) have spoken (ranted) at the doctor we will still go out for a late lunch, but a bit nearer home. So the usual no cooking Tuesday for me. Just a snack for supper will do.
DUMPLING I hope all goes well at the meeting. Such a worry for you and I will be thinking of you all x
I just need to have a quick whizz round with the vac this morning, and an equally quick swish round the bathroom, then that will be it for today. After the last 2 days of having 3 children here I think I have earned a rest!
A second coffee is now calling so have a good day all and ((HUGS)) for all wanting/needing them. It's one invalid after another checking in just now so take care all xx (What a mess your car looked GERS I hope you are not suffering any delayed after effects)"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all. It seems to be a fine morning out there, it'll be cold though, yesterday was bitter. Not that I went very far, just out for a couple of hours visiting a friend.
Well, the ironing was done yesterday, also a 1 load of washing which I put on the airer.
On the agenda today is exercise class, and might pop in to see DD as she lives near there.
Tonight is our usual quiz night with friends.
I'm still on a mission to get freezer stocks down, so tea will be herby pork meatballs, (found some pork mince).
DUMPLING, how worried you must be, I hope the meeting goes well.
TA, hope you get Mr TA's medication sorted out.0 -
Morning all. Does anyone know why it is near impossible to enter a craft/wool shop and come out with just the one thing that you went in for? Some people may be able to do it but I can't. Anyhow, the House Troll's teacher who goes on maternity leave tomorrow now has a cot blanket and a moses basket blanket instead of just one blanket. At least it's keeping me busy while I can't do much.
Hollyharvey I'm glad you took your knee to the doctors. Leg injuries can be difficult to heal once they're infected so keep a close eye on it and go back if you don't think it's improved in a couple of days.
Lainey and Gers I hope you're both alright too. Whiplash can take a couple of days to make it's presence known so take it easy.
TA I wouldn't wait for the phone call next time if I were you, I'd be on the phone asking for a call back from Mr TA's named GP. It may be that this other chap is in charge of MURs (medication under review). I've just had mine even though I saw the doctor and the practice nurse the same week, sigh.
In other news, some plonker doctor in London is trying to save the life of my Dad by amputating his leg. We were asked for permission then told he was going to do it anyway to save Dad's life. The thing here is we're not so sure what exactly he's trying to save. Dad has advanced vascular dementia from the last time some pillock ignored his DNR and spent longer than they should have trying to resuscitate him. Whilst we appreciate the sentiment and the effort made they left a man in his seventies with absolutely no quality of life and/or dignity. Now they're going to top it with a few weeks of agonising pain. It's a good job I'm nowhere near his hospital - I'd be banned. If you could do one thing for me today, please spare a thought for my Dad and hope that he's either not well enough for the op or he doesn't make it out the other end. Not your usual thing I know but for a man whose hobby used to be walking the coastline of Britain this is awful. Incidentally, all three of us (me, my sister and dad's girlfriend) are in agreement that this operation should not take place. Objection over ruled apparently.
Take care all of you0 -
Round Two of the central heating woes. Last week we had hot water but no heat, today neither works. I've put on a portable heater (borrowed) in the sitting room, DS has one in his room. DH doesn't feel the cold (or professes not to) and my hands are like frozen sausages. I am so looking forward to my shower, that's electric so should work but the bathroom is not a nice warm place.
I should warm up in a bit but only if I stay in one place. I've just made a cup of tea and now I'm trying to work out if the nice hot tea balances out the nasty cold kitchen. I think it does.
WherE are my thermal socks....
Gers, just saw your post, how nasty for you, take it easy if you can
Cranky, that's dreadful, surely it must be against medical ethics for them to do this?I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all.
I knew I shouldnt have gone back on Facebook....ive been invited to a bit of a 'do' next week but the only money I can spend is the money ive put aside for my Grandsons birthday. I tried getting out of it but was told not to worry about money. No good asking Grump for any because he said Christmas is cancelled this year due to lack of funds....I knew I shouldnt have listened to him and applied for that job. If it comes up again im on it!:D
Talking about Grump theres a bit of tension going on with the new job regarding his out of town allowance. He says if they dont give him what they promised hes leaving. Great. Not only is Christmas cancelled, we dont eat as well.
Today I need to count my blessings...Either that or dwell on my misery.
Onwards and forwards

we have a bathroom heater in the bathroom, it is fitted on the wall and like a small fan heater, could you look into getting one of those?0 -
CRANKY my thoughts are with you and your dad. I really hope they don't go through with the planned op for your dad's sake. He has suffered enough. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
