O/S Daily Wednesday 29th November 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, but air feels cold, but not sure if we've had a frost, hope not as it was wet underfoot from the showers we had late/into the evening yesterday.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was disjointed as DH was late in, boys and myself had sausages with jacket potato with cheese/beans, DH had sausages, beans and chips. Tonight's dinner is fish, chips and beans/veg - not very well thought out but need something reasonably quick as I finish late on a Wednesday and it needs to be a bung on a tray and into the oven type dinner.

Yesterday work started off reasonably quiet but then became very busy and people were waiting a while - but as always we did our best under the circumstances. Once I finish this afternoon I'm on days' off until Monday, have quite a "to do" list still so will crack on with it.

Keep safe and well x

Cold again but dry which is a bonus! Put the heating on for a while this morning so I don't freeze in the shower.

So many folk with worries on here, hope today is better for all of you.

I went for an ECG yesterday, when I had a chest infection the Dr heard a heart murmer, but nothing found thank goodness.

Large white load washed last night, all drying on the pulley and rack. DW emptied and all the knitting stuff has been put away, not doing any more until after Christmas. The living room looks so much better without all that clutter.

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

It feels really cold this morning, and the forecast is for lower temperatures in this area from tomorrow, so I think it will be time to turn the heating up and put on extra layers. I always find that I really feel the cold at the beginning of winter and then don’t notice it quite as much a few weeks in. I think I must adjust to the temperature.

I’m going to have another day at home today. I don’t want to make my knee any worse. It feels a bit more comfortable this morning and it didn’t wake me up as much during the night as it had been so hopefully the antibiotic cream is starting to work.

Meals will again be something from the freezer, I’m not sure what but will do a freezer dive shortly, when I’ve had another cup of tea. I want to dig another ready meal out. I’m glad now that I keep some in. I will prepare a few meals for the freezer when I have been out to the shops again, it will be much cheaper than buying in ready meals.

Hugs to everyone else who is poorly at the moment and struggling.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.
  • Morning folks. Another frosty start for us. Paradise it's not!

I never got back on here yesterday so just been reading back to see what developments had been made re CRANKY'S dad. I am so pleased that common sense has prevailed and the amputation has been cancelled. I just hope they can keep him pain free.

The outcome of the telephone appointment re the Oramorph! The good news was the doctor was prepared to speak to me. The bad news was it was obviously too much like hard work to wade through the last four and a half years of correspondence from the various Consultants and hospitals and I had to go from the thread to the needle explaining what all his problems were and why he was taking the Oramorph. Common sense prevailed for us too and she has prescribed it! I just hope next time I request it that his named GP is not on holiday!

After the call we tripped off to Ilkley for our usual Tuesday late lunch of ham, eggs, chips etc. Oh it was cold in Ilkley so there was no messing around poking about in all the cs!

Today is shopping day. Brought forward from tomorrow as we have the trek to Leeds for Mr TA's Oncology injection and that takes up most of the day.

The DGDs are back tonight for late tea and another sleepover (sometimes I feel they live here!) Spag Bol is on the menu as it's the easiest to dish up as and when they arrive separately after their various dancing lessons. Mince defrosting overnight so I will get that on in the sc shortly.

DUMPLING you coped so well yesterday and I can imagine how upsetting you found it. At least now you sound to have a diagnosis and they know what they are dealing with. xx

I am waffling so have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for everyone who needs/wants one, especially the invalids, poorlies, sad and worried. Take care xx

    Morning everyone.

Can’t see out yet but hoping for a dry day. The back passenger door of my car doesn’t fit properly and will let in rain. I can hear the wind whistling through it when I drive.

I’m teaching first thing and then going up to Oban to meet up with a colleague who needs a bit of support. Yesterday the session went really well, so fingers crossed for the same with the larger cohort.

Tonight I’m doing a PVG ID confirmation session for the footie club, hope they all bring their own pens!

HH - Rest and fluids are the key to a good recovery so stay on that sofa with little bouts of gentle movement. AB ointments are great, a localised treatment which avoids a systemic one.

Right, I have to get up and at the day. I wish you all a happy and peaceful Wednesday. Not long now until Tru’s star turn!
  • Oh GERS I had forgotten about TRU's daily treat! It might instill a bit of Christmas spirit in me. Cards have been bought ages, 4 big boxes of presents bought in fits and starts throughout the year but I just CBA starting the writing/wrapping! It was going to be last w/e but it never happened.

  • Good morning all, and a very wet one it is, I think it's rained all night. What with the rain and the north wind it's decidedly chilly here.
Nothing much happening today, a bit of shopping, tidying, do a wash load and put it on the airer, just what I call general "stuff".I may start wrapping presents, I've got quite a few.
CRANKY, so glad your Dad was spared surgery, you and your family must be so relieved.
DUMPLING, hope your Becky now gets appropriate treatment.
Hope everyone has a good a day as they can, and that anyone not well soon starts o feel better..

    Good morning all,

I'm hoping for a quieter, less traumatic day today. Thanks again to all of you. Although me, my sister and dad's girlfriend were all in agreement, the other two are much less likely to stand up to any authority figures so it fell to me to sort things out. It was still hard to do, and it's the kind of thing that stays with you forever I think.....

TA thank goodness you were met with common sense too.

To all the walking wounded Gers, Hollyharvey and Lainey I hope you all continue to feel better.

Today I'm going to stay indoors in the warm once I've done the school run and dropped a friend off somewhere else. I've made two baby blankets for the HT's teacher who goes on maternity leave today so now they're done I'm making a scarf for my sister out of pompom wool. I also have a cardigan that I'm making for myself that needs one more sleeve knitting so that's next on the list.....I have another weeks worth of antibiotics for the dodgy leg so I'm thinking that a week of taking it easy should see any infection gone before my sister comes to visit.

I'm looking forward to my Advent calendar and Tru's festive fun too :T:j:T

    Morning everyone,

Dull, overcast and distinctly cold here today, heating is on for an hour.

Feel quite a bit better today with aches and pains wearing off, I didn't get into town on Monday in the end so need to take my glasses in for repair, I always keep the previous ones but as there was a slight change in the prescription they are not as efficient. We have the engineer coming to service the boiler this morning but my beloved is working from home to sort that.
I really must write a list of the things I need to buy but my heart really isn't into it this year, my darling Mum is very much on my mind and, as we always use to do so much of the preparations together, it's only natural that it doesn't feel right without her.
Glad to read that the doctor listened to you TA and authorised the medication.
Hugs to Dumpling and her family.
Get well wishes to Gers, Holly and all other poorlies.
Another one here looking forward to Trus festive treat.
Tea is baked sausages with honey parsnips, one of my fav recipes from lovely Nigel Slater.

Have a good day folks x

    Morning all

Very cold and frosty here this morning, I was woken at 7 by a text saying that my new fridge / freezer will be delivered today between 1 -5 so I got up not long after, kitchen is going well all units are in just the drawers / doors/ shelves and end panels to do. Worktop comes tomorrow and can be fitted then.

We have put the new cooker in place but we need the gas man to come and fit it so will ring him today (he is a friend and is doing it as a favour), I put my old range master on the selling pages for free as it needed a bit of attention I have had five people after it I also put my old fridge up as I thought someone might get some use out of it, a woman replied and said she had had a fire and lost everything so I offered her the fridge for free, she wanted to see photos and quizzed me about it !! no word of a thank you from anyone !! I would be so grateful if I had nothing.

Mums for dinner tonight roast chicken I think it will be nice to have a proper dinner.

Right better get on have good days all xx
