foamy texture - why?
Hi folks, just curious about this one - it's not life or death - at least, I don't think it is! You'll remember not so long ago, the food industry developed a technique to add water to meat, to increase its volume and weight, and now that tecnique is largley discredited - we've all got wise to bacon that oozes white…

Cooking with oxtail
Hi all, On an impulse, I bought 1.3kg of oxtail yesterday and I've only just realised that I have absolutley no clue what to do with it! I've never cooked this before and it looks a bit scary with all the bones and fat! There is plenty of delicious meat as well though. Does anyone have any tips on how to cook this, and how…

Meal Plan w/b 22/4/17
Can only see last weeks! p { margin-bottom: 0.25cm; line-height: 120%; } One of my freezers is starting to not close properly , so needs defrosting. It's integrated and came with the house, and does this despite having probably been defrosted a few months earlier ( or it seems that way). Anyway i digress, it will be a use…

Lidl - best products and what to avoid (and is it really cheaper?)
Hi everyone, As the title says, I am just wanting recommendations on people's favourite Lidl products and if there are any best avoided. We have just had a new store open near us and it's massive, so thought I'd give it a go. I popped in earlier for some milk and other bits and I was impressed with what I saw. I used to…

My marmalade has unset :(
I made some orange marmalade which set absolutely fine. I go to open it some 2 weeks after I made it and it has turned runny. I made several jars and have noticed that those that were upright have remained set, those laid on their side have all turned runny. They were all tightly sealed so just wondering if anyone has any…

Vegetables in my breakfast
As part of my effort to eat ten portions of fruit and veg a day, I want to include at least two in my breakfast, but I'm having trouble thinking of what to eat, beyond tomatoes, baked beans and vegetable omelettes. I'd prefer not to start the day by frying foods - too smelly! I'd rather have veg than fruit, because I get…

Advice on a food budget
Hi, I know this is different for everyone but I'm trying to work out an approx monthly budget for food and all household expenses (cleaning products and toiletries) I usually pay on my debit card and I think I'm probably overspending due to this. My household is one adult and a child, just wondered what others spend. Thanks

Tea flask
I have two flasks, one very ancient Thermos which is losing its capacity to keep drinks hot and a fairly new one which has never been really good, loses heat quite quickly and gives a very flasky taste to tea. I used mine quite often and it is an automatic thing to pack along with sandwiches etc.for a day out hiking or…
