This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning all
Nice day here but very cold no heating on either so I have a blanket over my lap this morning.
Off to work for me yesterday was as bad as I feared but im hoping today I will get back in the swing of it a bit more, DD left home at a stupid hour this morning as she has training in London so im not sure what time she will be back.
Hunters chicken for dinner which I got in Lidl not had it before so im not sure what its like but it looks good, will do some roasted cubed spuds and some veg with it.
Must do an online shop sometime this week I have really got out of the habit of doing it and then im surprised when it doesn't turn up and we start to run out of things :rotfl:
Right better get on have good days all xx

Morning, we have clear skies here but it is very cold and apparently there was some snow last night but that was after I went up to bed.
A late start for me this morning as I have a local meeting, not worth going in to the office first. I think I might be wearing various layers, I can always lose a layer later.
I have done some washing overnight but I think it can go on racks indoors.
I hope everyone has a good day, stay warm!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone.
The sun is shining here and the sky is bright blue, no snow or rain.
My head still feels congested though I'm not as bad as yesterday. My day will consist on taking a woman down to Glasgow for a 3.30pm appointment, yesterday she told me that the clinic is always long and very slow so I'm not anticipating being home before 7.30pm. The hospital we're going to is not far from my DM so I may get to see her for a cup of tea.
My friends are going to see the birds of prey centre and then out for dinner as it's their silver wedding anniversary. I hope to join them for a drink about 9.00pm or so.
Food will be on the hoof I expect.
I hope that everyone has a good Tuesday without snow or too much rain.0 -
Good morning all, and thanks RR for kick starting the day. Well the sun is up and its bright and sunny but very cold.I am sitting in the living room looking out at the frost on the front lawn.Warm coats today I think
.
We are going to Quarry Bank Mill today so it should be an interesting day ahead.
Last night just after I went to bed around 10,30 I was on my lap-top and my DGS video called me from his office in New York which was a lovely surprise as I wasn't expecting it.He said the weather was around 15-16 degrees and nice and sunny.
His office is right by the Empire State building and looking out of the window the folk scrurrying around looked like ants:):)
We were talking about the price of food ( as you do) and he was saying it is the most expensive city in the world to buy it in, far dearer than London. A cucumber is aound £2.00 !! both he and his wife are real foodies and love fresh and if possible organic stuff which is hard to buy in the city.
He says they will try to go further out from the centre to shop at weekends as there is nothing like our inexpensive supermarkets in the city centre, but still he is enjoying life out there.
It was lovely to talk to him and I am so pleased he has settled down,His wife has got her works visa now so she will be starting work soon. No point them buying a car though as the parking is virtually unobtainable where he lives and works.
He says it really is cheaper to eat out than cook at home His rental for his apartment which is 400 sq ft is $6000 per month !! but it does include a maid/cleaning service ,heating and airconditioning
Apparently when you rent the place is measured by the sq ft and theirs is not that big, but enough for the two of them.
Interesting to see how other people manage in a different country, their laundry is also done outside as there is not enough room in the kitchen for a washing machine but its relatively cheap and a weeks washing costs around $25 and comes back all ironed as well
Right, time to get some more coffee, hope you all have a nice day and if its chilly wrap up well.
Cheers chums

Morning all
Chilly here but the sun is shining at the moment DS arrived home safe n sound luckily he had his body armour on so the punches that came his way got deflected apparently the guy whose gig it was only ever does one gig in a country so they are over subscribed and he has had gigs cancelled before due to trouble .
I managed to hoover the house through and do some washing yesterday so i will get the floors washed today.
We had some devastating news regarding a friend last night he is in hospital after a major operation with a 10% chance of survival he was best man at our friends wedding on saturday so to say we are shocked is an understatement.
Dinner tonight will be pie n mash
Have a great day whatever you are up to x0 -
Good morning everyone,
Thank you for the well wishes yesterday. I echo what karcher said, you lot are a lovely bunch.
Spanish lesson last night was a bit more difficult but it's beginning to all tie in. Not much else happened apart from that.
Tonight will be much the same because of this damned leg. Need to buy myself a new book to give me something to do in the evening. Bored already.
Jackie - I loved reading about your DS's thoughts on NY. I'd love to work there one day. Keep us updated with any other unexpected video calls you have.
tiredmum - hope your friend isn't suffering and manages to pull through.
Have a lovely day all.0 -
Morning everyone,
Cold but sunny here this morning, the heating was timed to be on for an hour to take the chill off and glad it was!
Just enjoyed scrambled eggs for breakfast and then will be driving into C/bridge to hopefully pick up a couple of little bits for DOH's Birthday on Thursday, have already got him theatre tickets but want something he can open in the day
It's proving an expensive old week as my car needed a new battery after all and my steam iron has given up the ghosthave checked out various reviews and decided on the one I want and JL seem to be the best price so will be popping in there. Personally I like a heavish iron as I feel it helps with the smoothing iyswim, also gives my arms a work out!
What a lovely surprise to hear from your DGS JackieO and interesting to read about the cost of fresh veg.
Sorry to read about your friend TM what a shock for everyone concerned.
Take care everyone x0 -
Morning all,
rubbish nights sleep for me thanks to a hound. I dont have a problem getting up with her, she's as old and cranky as i am but i do struggle getting back off to sleep again. She doesnt seem to have that problem. Despite the fact she gets me up most nights several times, i still love her and wouldnt change her for the world! I was surprised at 3 am to find it was snowing. Just a few flakes but it was definitely snowing.
Still, up bright and early. Decided to clean the windows. Ive done upstairs but find the windows on the inside arent too bad. Its the outside windows that are grotty. I need a window cleaner. Waved to several people i know whilst doing it.:D
Going to see a friend tonight for a couple of hours. She lost her husband unexpectedly in February and is struggling spiritually. Its a long time ago since i felt marginally qualified to help in that way but i'll give her my shoulder to cry on if nothing else.
Tiredmum, such devastating news. I hope your friend pulls through his procedure.
Speky. I hope the pain from your leg eases soon.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning all.
Once again thank you all for your well wishes, it means a lot :A
Not sleeping well at all and this morning feel physically sick with worry, unfortunately there is nothing I can do and things are completely beyond my control which is frustrating and upsetting.
I'm trying to keep myself distracted but it isn't working...if anyone has any foolproof ways of totally switching off (other than knocking myself out) I'd be very keen to hear about them.
I apologise for being on such a downer and have been wracking my brain for something funny/happy to write about but coming up blank!
TM sorry to hear about your friend, I hope he recovers.
SS I must have missed the post about your leg, hope it's better soon.
I am going to make a concerted effort to cook something healthy for dinner tonight after days of living off toast and cheese sandwiches..I will report back
Have a good day all and take care :A xx'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -

Tired Mum,what an awful shock, hope your friend pulls through.
Karcher, hope you manage to forget your worries for a bit.
I managed to clear the old wardrobe and find temp homes for the stuff,& have taken photos ready to put it on fleabay.Cleaned and polished,DH just needs to rescrew a piece of wood on the inside and its good to go.I'm hoping it wont take too long for DH to build the new cupboard but not holding my breath
Hope you all have a good day xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Karcher i'm sorry your so worried. I can usually pass off my worries during the day by making myself think of something else/distraction techniques but not so successful in the small hours of the morning.
