One pot meal for 2 nights
Sounds daft but last couple of Sunday's I have made a large cottage pie, cooked it, cooled it then had it for tea Monday and Tuesday (once with gravy once with beans) to save time those evenings. Was wondering if anybody else does this and if there were any other meals which would work well like this? Has to be something…

Gregg Wallace programme on TV
What are your thoughts on the new Gregg Wallace programme on TV. The new family seemed to spend a lot more than they needed, and the lady and her OH were astonished at how much they were actually spending for the five of them.Couldn't understand how a seemingly bright lady never thought to cut her chunk of cheese in three…

How to clean mould off wood windowframe
We've not long moved into a house with a velux window in the loft, The window frame is wood and appears to be bare wood, not painted or varnished. On the rim along the window, where the blind clips in, there are mould stains. I don't think there's any 'furry' mould, it's just that the wood is stained. Likely from…

Scratched bath
Hi all, I'm not sure whether anyone can help, I have done a search but couldn't see this posted already.. A scratch has appeared on the bottom of the bath - it looks like the paint/enamel/whatever coats the thing has been removed and it's quite noticeable. Living in a rented property I'm conscious this needs to be resolved…

I wanna vegetarian haggis lasagne recipe
Hello folks  I'm looking for a tried and tested vegetarian haggis lasagne recipe..... I've googled it and found a couple of recipes but mostly the recipes I've found are just normal haggis with the recommendation to substitute the veggie haggis for the 'meat' one. I've not had much luck in the past with veggie…

Drying Figs? No fan oven!
Hi all - I've been given some figs off my friend's tree and I wanted to dry them (they're not the nicest to eat fresh sadly) and later put them in a fig & honey cake for Christmas. I looked up how to dry figs in an oven - so they've been blanched for 30 seconds then straight into an ice bath, then drained and dried.…

Do you own a carpet cleaner?
Hi Our living room and bedroom carpets are both nearly 2 years old and starting to look a bit grubby. I am wondering what's the best/most cost effective way of cleaning them. Our neighbour has her own carpet cleaner and cleans her carpets fairly regularly. She swears that by doing this it is prolonging the life of the…

How to get light and fluffy bread rolls like in the supermarkets?
I am on a mission to save as much £'s as i can, and one of the ways i plan to do this, is by making all of out own bread products. We love burger buns, hot dog rolls and sub rolls from the supermarket, but no matter how many times i try and recreate them, i cannot get them really light and fluffy! What's the secret, please…

Putting dried soya mince in slow cooker?
I bought a bag of it in Tesco last week but I'm too wary of it to use it as the main ingredient in a meal yet. I was thinking of chucking a few handfuls into a slow cooker bean chilli. Surely it will be ok provided I monitor the liquid? I'm thinking it will just bulk it out the same as lentils do? Or will it turn the…

Which sewing machine make?
Hi all, I thought this would be the best section to post in: Can anyone recommend a particular make of (cheapish) sewing machine that is the most sturdy and reliable? I've just moved house and need to alter a lot of curtains and linings plus I have a pile of trousers to take up and I think it'll pay for itself pretty…

batch cooked meals cooking from frozen/defrosting?
I know a lot of people batch cook and freeze so how do you work out the times for reheating? plus do you heat from frozen or defrost first? I know it would save a lot of time & money if I could get the hang if it but the thing that puts me off is needing to defrost things 1st as it seems to take forever the last ready meal…

Vegetarian advice please
Having taken in two EF homestay exchange students for the academic year, I am grateful to find that they both eat well and are not picky. One is a vegetarian and the other is happy to eat vegetarian food, as is the rest of the family, if necessary. I am happy to make some family meals completely vegetarian, but since we…
