As a family we used to be very reliant on picking up veggies at a local big T£sco at the reduced counter. We have a large household with mainly vegetarians and 1 carnivore. We'd usually go sunday afternoon what we got would last us for most of the week. There was always plenty for everyone, and it was always a nice little crowd who knew each other. Everyone was very polite and hubby who is tall and athletic would often reach stuff for the less able bodied putting in their basket etc.
Recently however we've noticed things have changed. A different group now, very aggressive, snatching and grabbing, I feel sorry for the poor sales assistant. I thought it was just the days we were going so we changed days, but one lady goes every evening, she waves a crutch around which keeps everyone back and literally takes everything. Neither hubby and I can face it anymore, we just resigned ourselves to buying Ald% 'super six'. There is a Waitrose in the next town, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with their reduced section - do they have many veg and fruit reduced?

No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

Yes, if you hit the right time, which I haven't been able to pinpoint with certainty, but this is my experience, approx. It seems to me that in the Canary Wharf one, fruit and veg get reduced after the lunchtime rush. In the Stratford Westfield one it is around mid morning. All th w8roses tend to have magnificent YS sessions at their bakery counters around half hour before closing time, and sometimes they reduce their deli stuff to silly prices, oh joy!
HTHFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Our W8rose tend to do most of their reductions at around 11 in the morning, they don't have a reduced section but tend to leave produce on the shelves with a prominently displayed reduced sticker on it. Sometimes they have fruit/veg and also bread nd baked goods in small circular bins at the end of aisles in those departments. I've never seen the sort of behaviour you have experienced there and most people will courteously wait for the person looking to finish before looking themselves. If I did see someone behaving in that mannerless and aggressive way I'd find the nearest assistant and ask for the manager to come on to the shop floor and sort it out there and then.0

I recently worked in a supermarket and some behaviour you saw around the reduced section was shocking.
One lady would take 2 trolleys in, so she could position them to block the section from other people. She was furious when we said it wasn't acceptable!0 -
My local Waitrose doesn't have that much reduced. They did when it first opened but they seem to have adjusted their stock levels and there's generally very little reduced stock - there's often a lot of one thing but not much else. M&S can sometimes be good for reduced stuff, especially on Sundays. Again it's store dependent but I've found some good bargains.0
