Gregg Wallace programme on TV

Options
What are your thoughts on the new Gregg Wallace programme on TV. The new family seemed to spend a lot more than they needed, and the lady and her OH were astonished at how much they were actually spending for the five of them.Couldn't understand how a seemingly bright lady never thought to cut her chunk of cheese in three and freeze two and use the other one to grate more easily ??? or is it me .I buy a brick sized lump of cheese and always do this as it lasts a lot longer this way.Grated cheese seems to go further as well.

I've seen a few of them. I randomly stumble across programmes, rather than knowing when they are on.

You have to remember that they specifically seek these people out.... so they aren't "the norm".

Greg's very annoying, imho. Very. Very, very.

If he came to my house he'd have to resign.

she was a bit lazy really, everything was hard work or too much trouble.

But why don't they make more use of Aldi and Lidl, they save money but use so many different shops. If both adults are working full time and have three children they wont have time to visit so many shops.
And why do we keep getting shots of Greg gurning?

The programme in general made my toes curl, but the eldest lad was a joy, especially when asked what type of food he,d like to eat and replied 'home cooked'
Could not see why the dad, who obviously wanted to do some pan rattling didn't,t take over cooking duties and let his wife deal with the other household duties we all get on with

I doubt if we'll watch the rest of the series as it appears to be the Greg show.
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

  • I agree Gregg Wallace is the most irritating man on TV far too keen on chuntering on and stating the bl**ding obvious. The kids were lovely though ,especially the little girl

Well apart from Gregg Wallace who is a bit of a one trick pony I do enjoy these programmes, I am always open to new ideas.

I though the children on this one were little sweethearts, the dad was nice and ready to have a go whilst yes the wife was rather more hesitant at first. However, she got it in the end....bless her.

she cheerfully admitted she was lazy but once she got her teeth into it I thought she did very well. I was amused to see her efforts at grating cheese, she was nearly as ham fisted as I am......lol.

I always think the thing to remeber is none of us were born knowing this stuff, we all had to learn how to cook and keep house.

Some of my early efforts in the kitchen don't bear thinking about and even now, over 45 years later, I still have "can't cook days" where I make a mess of things.

I recorded it but not watched it yet.

There was a long thread about the first series, I found both presenters very irritating and most of the families featured were even worse.

    Here's the old thread:

And here's my first post on that thread (which shows how under-whelmed I was :rotfl:)

I was really surprised to see how much food the boys were eating.
    FOUR sausages each?
And a load of new potatoes!
Nice to see them eating broccoli though.

I found some of the comparisons strange.
The not Greg Wallace chap (no idea who he is) was comparing the price of a dozen sausages.
It would have made more sense to me to compare weight.

They talked about burgers from different places - they appeared happy with the burgers x 4 that cost (I think) almost £2.00 less than they usually buy but what about making your own?
You can buy (for example) 750gm of lean steak mince (5%) for £6 from Tesco. That would make fab burgers.
You know what goes in to them too.

Really surprised at that nutrition woman who appeared to say that even the cheap sliced bread was 'good'.
Very different from the advice given by Gillian McKeith in 'You are what you eat' many years ago.

And where was the meal planning?
The not Greg Wallace bloke's effort was laughable.
They didn't explain that buying (for example) a 750gm box of mushrooms and using them in different dishes was cheaper than just buying what you need.

I bought 750gm of mushrooms yesterday.
Some will go into tonight's tuna risotto, some into pasta & meatballs tomorrow and the rest into a beef stroganoff on Sunday.

Not really impressed with the program or the messages it gave out, tbh.
But then again, I didn't really expect that much.
IIRC, not many people who posted about the 1st series thought it was much good.
  • I was laughing at some of it as I can't work out if the people on the programme are genuinely making such silly comments or they are given lines to say.:rotfl:

I thought the bit about marg and butter was quite informative.

Just been looking through next week's TV magazine.
The episode for Thursday 17th September says:
"....help the Austens, tackling the highest expenditure on food they've ever encountered. Mum Denise has had to give up work so family income is down by a third but still buys as if she's earning.
The family are guilty of stockpiling food so they can't open the fridge without items falling out and remain utterly devoted to high-end brands. "
