Yes, but the reason the woman was leaving the skins on, was because she didn't know how to peel a potato, or was possibly too lazy to do so.;)

All the recipes I have for potato wedges say to leave the skin on and I did a quick search of 'home made potato wedges' and all the first 5 recipes I looked at say to leave the skin on. I got bored after that...

Could not believe Gregg saying he wouldn't know the difference between a quorn burger and a 'good' (as stated by Gregg) meat burger! I've cooked what I'd describe as 'good' meat burgers (as defined by the cost before the yellow sticker got on the pack and by ExHusband ;) and they look nothing like quorn burgers.

I'm guessing none of the parents learnt to cook from their parents or school. It's sad seeing them not have a clue what to feed their children.

The one question that was not asked on the "butter v marg" was taste, this surprisingly is a biggy for my family, if it doesn't taste nice then they wont eat it. :)
:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.00
  • One possibility is the fact they're not as keen as butter mean that folk will not eat as much.
A crusty slice of a cob loaf with a hunk of cheese slathered with butter as opposed to a slice of bread thinly spread with Olivio or similar Which is the healthier do you think and which the tastier :):):)

Not seen prog yet but saw the last series however, from your comments :A

    1) my Mum could not cook at all - she was teaching abroad and had servants until she was 34 so she never learnt. I learnt from my brilliant cookery teacher (I still use her recipes) and 2 of my friend's Mum's :A
    2) I had to start somewhere and it was v basic to begin with - now folks say I am a good cook - I certainly get folks wangling dinner invites!! :D But my cooker teacher taught me how to use equipment such as knives properly - Jamie does it too on his programmes - wish more Chefs would do this.
    3) there are still folk who dont know what o do unless it comes from a packet - today I went round Mr T's (needed paprika which Mr L doesnt do) and while lookin for the veg YS found a section of shelves that left me standing there with me mouth open - mashed veg; mashed potatoes of 2 types: preped peas and green beans cut up cauli and brocoli - seriously! do people actually buy this stuff ??????????????? Evidently so cos there was a large area of shelf devoted to it and some large gaps in the shelf stock :p

Pottering off to find program shaking head in disbelief !

Yes they do. My 81 year old Nan is still living independently but has arthritis in her wrists - so repetitive motions such as chopping or peeling are a real struggle. I imagine also some physically impaired people find them useful (I have a colleague who only has one arm) So yes, these products have a market. its not always laziness and we shouldn't be quick to judge when we see these products in someones trolley. For all we know they are shopping for an elderly relative.
  • I need to use pre-prepped veg - is that out not be able to cook fresh veg at all. Chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia with neuropathic joint pain, ibs and a tendency to collapse mean than chopping veg is in no way a high priority energy use. It means I can still cook occasionally. I'm 27

Everybody has their own reasons for what they buy, and pre-prepared vegetables can be really helpful for people like Dragonette and Kanichen's mum.

I will definitely be trying out the beetroot choc cake. My friend made some once and it was delicious.

I found this recipe on BBC Good Food website and made one on Saturday afternoon http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/eggless-chocolate-beetroot-blitz-bake-cake
It was really easy but I found it cooked much more quickly than the recipe says (could be my oven :o )
It was so delicious that it had all vanished within 24 hours!
I made another one yesterday and took some into work today, I just said that it was a new recipe I was trying and asked for feedback. Everyone (literay every person) who tried it has asked for the recipe- their face when they read the list of ingredients is a picture!
    Definitely a winner :)

I've got it on. Two fatties overeat ... £17,500/year on food! Many people don't earn that. I bet most people don't earn that after tax.

What an utter disgrace they are.
