O/S Daily Tuesday 8th September 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, but dull and overcast, dry underfoot, still chilly.

DH and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. Tonight we’re going to clear up the LO’s of Sunday’s roast – I’ll probably have to do some extra veg, but I’ll re-heat the meat in a pot of gravy and cook the sausages that need using up (there’s not enough meat left for everyone so need to make it stretch!)
Work yesterday was a manic Monday – I’m working at the other office today so it’s not quite so bad as I’m working on the phones so it’s not so in your face (iyswim).

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Another fine day in store, though not as much sun forecast as yesterday. Didn't get on here at all yesterday but will read through your posts shortly as I don't like to miss any news.

Well today we have Oncology in Leeds and I already have my assertive head on. We have been fobbed off now for over two years regarding the pain/discomfort Mr TA gets in the region of his initial op site. Numerous examinations and scans bring up no cause and insist it isn't a referred pain from the small tumours he has elsewhere. It stops him eating and of course he has lost loads of weight over the two and a bit years because of it. I am not going to be fobbed off any longer and demand (nicely) it is investigated thoroughly. Something is causing it despite what they all say. I just feel the radiotherapy (when it starts) won't improve things either until they get to the bottom of this unexplained pain. He is getting so weak and lethargic too.

Rant over sorry. But I get so frustrated watching him suffer. we don't need to go until the 11.30 train so will order a taxi to take us to the station around 11 ish. We usually have an earlier appointment than today's and it's all rush.

Yesterday was a lovely sunny day. I popped in town on the bus in the morning to get a few bits and pieces. Then, after lunch, I tackled a bit of cutting back in the garden. I attacked the pink fuchsia first that has gradually taken over half the patio and all but smothered the red fuchsia next to it in the border! It looks so much tidier and we can actually see the red fuchsia now. Then lopped a bit off the honeysuckle before doing a bit of deadheading. Job well done and collapsed on the seat with a well earned G & T in the sunshine!

We had the fire on for the first time last night, it felt really chilly. We said it was just to test the new fire out but it felt so cosy it got left on all evening! It throws out far more heat than our old one so money well spent!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))))) if needed. Take care xx

Our new walking routine hasn't started yet, yesterday poor Scamps limped down the stairs (instead of his usual manic rush when he hears the word 'walk'!). He's scraped the skin on his paw. I wasn't sure whether to take him out or not but he headed straight for his lead so we just had a short amble round the block, he seemed satisfied with that. I made a few attempts to clean his paw – I was armed with salty water, cotton wool and sudocrem. I soaked the cotton wool with water and tried dabbing but he just tried to eat it. So I tried dipping his paw in the water but he wanted to drink it :D I had to wait for mr tru to come home before I could clean it properly. He spent a lot of time licking it during the day and I think he's done a much better job than me :D I'll probably take him out for a few very short walks today, instead of his usual two long ones. He's usually a busy boy (apart from an afternoon nap, lol) so he was bored yesterday. If I don't keep him occupied while his paw heals, he'll drive us both nuts :D

I got all my planned jobs done and managed a couple that weren't on the list :D Mum is popping round today to pick up her laptops, I'll be glad to get them out of the way. Not much else happening today, I'm up to date on everything. It feels very much like autumn so I've dusted off the slow cooker and defrosted a few bags of veg and some meat. Beef stew tonight – and leftovers for lunch for the next few days. I've rinsed out the freezer bags, they're all lined up neatly drying on wooden spoons :D

    Morning All

Dry and fine here so far, apparently our spell of wonderful weather is to last till the weekend. I'm loving the sunshine and warm temperatures.

RR - Sounds like you had a fab holiday, we should all go!

tru - Hope Scampi's paw gets better soon.

TA - Keep your assertive head on and get some answers.

I woke up at 5.30 so came downstairs to potter about. Decided to iron the couple of things that were there and the iron tripped the new electric box. Had to get a head torch, open the new cupboard (the latch didn't work very well!) and set it all again. Meanwhile, the alarm was tootling away and probably woke the whole street. I think I may keep a low profile today!

Bathroom turning into a nightmare - the tiles can't be cleaned, the tile co have sent over some special cleaning stuff but they still look pants. What a waste of money.

Anyway, have a good day, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone

It's a lovely bright and sunny morning here but my mood is not quite so happy. I am not sleeping again and I feel sick. My hubby offered to stay home with me but I've packed him off to work as I'm sure I will be fine. I am hoping to grab an hour in bed later once the girls have gone off to school.

The mince and dumplings went down really well yesterday and there is a portion left over as well to freeze for another day. I roasted a chicken yesterday as well so I will be making a curry later for tonight. I think I will be passing on it though in favour of a cup of tea.

My friend wants to come over today but I will try and get hold of her to put her off till another day. She is having car trouble anyway so it is doubtful whether she would get here anyway.

I will be thinking of you and your DH TravellingAbuela. I really hope you get some answers today.
Tru, thank you, I have some soup bags from Lakeland and I was wondering how to dry them after washing them out to reuse. Using a wooden spoon is genius :).

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Good morning all,

A little foggy this morning but told it will clear.

Nothing much going on today but I wanted to wish TA all the best for DHs appointment, keep that mind set going and don't leave until you have some answers, that lovely man of yours deserves that.

    Morning everyone.

It's still very dull and grey but hopefully it'll burn off. Yesterday was really lovely here too. After my very frustrating morning with npower I spent some lovely time in the garden. To the sound of 100 cows bellowing right behind me I cleared vegetation, planted poppy seeds and then sat out in the sun. The noise reminds me if my childhood visits to my beloved granny and so was very 'soothing'.

The lovely red squirrel came back to eat more peanuts - I spent a few minutes watching him hanging upside down on the feeder and wrapping himself right round it. Very funny.

I started an online free six week course on forensic anthropology, just for interest. It's not any kind of qualification but Val McDermid is involved in setting the story and scenes. Think I'll enjoy it.

Today I've got some friends coming down from their village 14 miles away so need a quick spruce up, just a swipe with a duster is needed.

TA - I'll be right behind you in spirit and hope you push them really hard. Xx

Tru - you should write a book after your time with Scamps! It'd make very entertaining reading.

Right, need to get started. I hope everyone has a good day, mine can only be 100% less annoying than yesterday.

    Morning all,

redruby i am not keen on cheese or wine if i'm honest but can i come along for the ride? :D

TA Thinking of you and your DH. I hope you get the answers you need. Stand firm, dont be fobbed off.

Another sleepless night. Triggered by thoughts of my Aunties funeral i spent an hour before bedtime researching the basic cost of a funeral. The last funeral i arranged was for my StepFather and it cost £2,500. We are now looking at a basic funeral cost of £3,000!

I think both me and hubby need a kick up the bum, we have buried our heads in the sand for far too long.

Back to the funeral. I'm not going to have to go out and buy something. Most of my clothes are black.

Not much to do in the house today but i'm sure i can find something to occupy myself.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Good Morning everyone, lovely day here and the lawns covered with dew, very pretty. We've solved a mystery this morning, we seemed to be losing apples from the big old tree on the front lawn, thought someone might be picking them but today discovered that the culprits are Roe Deer, we have an increasing number of them being pushed into a decreasing amount of undeveloped land so I have a sympathy for them but NOT if they continue to eat not only my apples but browse the branches on my tree!!!

We have the boiler being serviced this morning and He Who Knows has to go and see if he can help some village friends this afternoon, anguished plea last night that they were under attack from Badgers??? apparently they're barrelling their way through the fence and digging on the lawn and in the flower beds. What we can actually do I do not know, but he'll go and see anyway!

Making Leek and Potato soup for lunch today with the first of our homegrown leeks and they're full of leek moth larvae, I've had to remove so much outside leaf they look more like spring onions. Never mind, the problem seems to solve itself later in the season so we won't harvest any more until we've had a frost.

Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.

TRU poor Scampi, hope his paw heals quickly!
