O/S Daily Monday 7th September 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, but dull and overcast, dry underfoot, temperature has dropped though. Have a basket full of washing to put on the line shortly.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but I’ll wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Dinner yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, carrots, Hg green beans, broccoli, peas, Yorkshires and gravy – meat was delicious, one of the nicest joints of lamb we’ve had in a long time. I have LO meat, Yorkshires, and some veg, so tomorrow night I’ll just make a pot of gravy and re-heat meat in that, I’ll cook a packet of sausages that are in the fridge, and re-heat the veg and we can eat the LO’s as a dinner. Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/peas.
Back to work for me today, is likely to be another busy Monday as loads of letters are going out at the moment and customers need to reply or bring documents in to us.
I have a busy week – so expecting that all of a sudden we’ll be at the weekend again!
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Off to work in a sec, hubby has a cuppa & the fish have been fed.
I'm expecting another week of chaos until things are sorted.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone.
Very cloudy here but I have hopes about it clearing up.
Yesterday I had a fairly peaceful time, slept late and then did more pottering in the garden. A friend turned up with his gorgeous four year old, I had bought a couple of things for him from Australia Zoo.
I missed Antiques Roadshow so will watch it on demand this morning. Allegedly a meter reader is coming between eight and ten but I am not convinced he's going to turn up as I was previously told that they only come to this area on Thursday. I would love to be surprised and wrong.
There's the usual porridge for breakfast. Must get up, Led Zep are on the radio and I need to do a jig...favourites song.
EDIT - sorry! 'Good times, Bad times' always gets my body moving.
I've now showered and got dressed. More cow TB testing being done today so already the animals are making a racket. My back garden wall is the shared wall with the steadings so I get the various farm animals in there at differing times. I like to hear them as it makes such a change from our last place in the middle of a city.
I may chance a washing load but will wait a while yet, don't want a pile of wet sheets in the utility room.
Anyway, Happy Monday everyone.0 -
Good morning everybody :hello:
It's finally here.....the first day of school:D. My girls are all up, dressed and organised for probably the only day they will do it :rotfl:.
I have my list ready to tick off for all the jobs I want to get done today. If I only get 50% I will be happy though.
Hubby has gone off to work quite happily after a nice weekend. He will be home a bit earlier today so I will get tea ready for then. I am making mince beef and dumplings with buttered cabbage. If I can I will get it made this morning so I'm not rushing around this evening.
I am expecting a delivery of fabric today so I can finally open my sewing machine box and get it out. I have a very simple patern of a shopping bag to try it out with. My friend is coming over in the week to help me get started as well so hopefully I won't get too frustrated with it. I really want to learn how to sew and so far it's a skill that has eluded me. I think youtube will be helpful as well.
Congratulations to csarina on your success yesterday and a thank you to scarlet ribbons for your reassurance about the cake.
Well that's all from me for today, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -

redruby Your holiday sounds amazing, can I come next time?
Congrats to the csarinas :T
meanmarie Sorry to hear about your cousin xx
We've found a makeshift dog parkWe have a market twice a week, the rest of the time it's empty. It's enclosed with just one gate left unlocked, we drove past the other day and saw some people letting their dogs have a good run around so have taken Scampi a couple of times. It's quite close to our house, the walk there keeps us off the main roads (apart from having to cross one) and down the canal a short way. He loves it and behaves perfectly around the other dogs. He's great on a long lead too, it's just the short lead he doesn't seem to like
The kids are all back at school now so he won't be freaked out by all the running around and loud play, so I'm going to try something new with him today – walk him to the local park as normal then use a long rope when we get there. Hopefully he won't try to scare other dogs away, though he usually only does it when they're on a lead, if they're not he's fine most of the time. I just do not understand how his mind works, lol.
I've got quite a long list to get through today but most of it is computer stuff so I'll be sat down a lot. I'll space the housework out during the day, my leg is very stiff this morning and I don't want to sit for too long. I'll stand up every half an hour, have a good stretch, do a job then repeat til all work is done

Morning all,
Bit cooler here this morning can feel Autumn peeping around the corner ! have got more washing on the go and another two to go in, will get it all done today and hang it out as its quite blowy, it should hopefully mostly dry today.
I took a chicken out last night for dinner tonight and will do a roast with it, the leftovers will be turned into chicken fried rice for tomorrow.
I need to get all the washing put on the relevant beds today and I need to do an online shop for delivery this week.
The grass could do with a cut but will have to see if it dries out enough.
Have good days all xx0 -
Hi everyone,
It's a lovely day here, but still a bit autumnal. I've got lots to do again, I want to try to sort all the things we've got waiting to be transported to the wedding in less than three weeks now, eek. I also want to finish the candle holder tiles, I put them on hold over the weekend while I made the fabric trays for the cheese biscuits, they've turned out really well.
We also collected the majority of the apples off DS' bramley tree. I'm going to sort and store the unblemished ones and then prepare the ones that are bruised or a bit worm eaten over the next few days while watching the box. I want to pick some blackberries and make blackberry and apple jelly because the lot I made last year was very tasty. I also want to pick some sloes for gin.
I must stop listing all the things I want to do before I make myself panic!0 -
Morning, (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one. Despite the forecast, its a bright sunny morning, washing is in the machine, Monday clean to do and a pot of soup, I do not know about autumn coming, its here. The mornings and evenings are very chilly, although OH says the thermometer is up 2c from first thing yesterday morning.0

Morning all,
didnt get to visit yesterdays thread so i'll catch up with your news throughout the day.
Beautiful day here, i'm ashamed to say ive been putting the heating on over the last few days. Hopefully it wont be needed today.... Long may the sunshine last!
Men got off to work this morning. Hubby is quiet and mostly i dont hear him go but 'Youngest' thunders around the house like a tornado. Ive not slept particularly well over the last few nights but last night i slept well and didnt appreciate being woke up by a noisy teenager.
Daughter has an appointment today to apply for her South African visa. She's missing her partner and her boy dreadfully. Hopefully it can all be sorted out today.
Hubby has bought his folding camper. He wont be picking it up for a week or two. He's like a kid with a new toy until the novelty wears off. He's planning on using it for a week or two instead of digs at work, just to try it out.... I'll see how long it holds his interest.
Weekends are very strange now 'Youngest' is driving. We hardly ever see him. When hubby met me i'd already got 2 little ones so we have never really been on our own before. Its taking a bit of getting used to.
Just the usual housework to do today, downstairs mostly completed and i want to catch up with Holby City on iPlayer sometime today. I missed it on Tuesday and havent got round to watching it yet.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning all. Busy today with last minute back to school stuff. Washing pegged out and blowing nicely. Pots washed and dried and a quick tidy up done. A few bits of paperwork to sort out and then doing my to do list so I don't forget anything.
Tomorrow the twins will be starting 6th form and I can get back into some sort of routine. It seems like they have been off school forever as the finished their exams in the middle of June!0 -
Good Morning everyone, just back from taking DD1 home last night. A lovely day here and nicely warm too so washing will go outside when it's finished. We had a super day yesterday at the Dorset Steam Fair, were so lucky with the weather and a relatively easy run to her home although Dorset/Somerset/Wiltshire roads are very twisty!!! Looking forward to a week here back in routine now before going to sit on the Zebra next week. He Who Knows has come home to an offer of yet more apples so has gone to collect and then pick raspberries on the allotment. I shall venture up the garden in a minute to pick blackberries and beans, many dropped apples on the front lawn so I'll gather those up and process them too. I'm going to enjoy this nice weather as much as I can, it looks like being a nice week and I'm going to get a few walks in while it's here.
Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.0
