Frugal Ways to organise my home?
Hi All I find that my flat (2 bed with 2 adults and 2 kids) is always messy. It's not just kids toys, its craft materials (mine and kids) piles of washing that needs doing, paperwork, stuff I'm trying to sell (any annoyingly isn't selling) etc. I want to have a tidy home which is impossible with the amount of stuff we…

Moving house; any essential from betterware?
Morning all. We have sold our house at last and I know there is a good thread on packing and lists etc. Through the letter box yesterday came a betterware catalogue. Now, trying to save money I don't tend to buy things from catalogues as I think I can usually get what I need from a car boot sale or charity shop. I just…

Making cut roses last longer
Any tips for getting those lovely bunches of roses in bud to last longer? I was given some recently and most of them failed to break open into full flower and just died in bud. I tried cutting and splitting the stems but it had little effect. I wonder if it's partly connected with room temperature. .

Accidentally strayed out of DT, so while I was out I thought I'd post this I've found: The Russian Salmon Pie recipe sounds gorgeous. Apologies if it's been posted before. Enjoy. :)

Retirement Village living
We are thinking about selling up and moving into a retirement village. We are both turned 70 and have realised that continuing in our present home with a large garden and large windows etc. will not be sustainable in our declining years. This move will swallow up all of our carefully preserved capital but in return we will…

Question, Irish Soda Bread
Hi, advice needed please :) I bought a loaf of Irish brown Soda Bread (yellow Label) on the 14th put in the bread bin and forgot all about. It looks perfectly nice and okay and doesn't appear stale at all but a sniff test is giving a slightly odd smell. Does soda bread have a different aroma? Could I toast it or should it…

Any ESSE or EverHot Users?
Hi all, I am an Aga user, I moved house three years ago and really love it. There are a couple of downsides. The fact I am running two boilers, one for the Aga and one for our heating and hot water. I have seen a ring that I really like, but it is rose gold plated silver. The only review on it is to say the gold plate has…

Help with a really annoying duvet cover please!
I was at a friend's house sale and bought a nice kingsize duvet cover. It's lovely soft light cotton but it's driving us nuts! If you turn over or move at all the cover seems to move with you but the duvet doesn't, so within minutes you don't have any duvet in about a quarter of the thing. I think if I can somehow attach…

Food shopping/food budget
Hi Just looking for a general consensus about food shopping. I'm wondering whether it is possible to feed two adults on £100 per month. I am happy to meal plan and I can cook fine, so I certainly don't have any reservations about cooking. I tend to cook in bulk and freeze quite a bit. I'm generally quite frugal anyway, but…

Trying to go back to the mop and bucket
For years now I have just used floor wipes, I live in a small flat and don't have much lino so haven't though it worth bothering with a mop and bucket. I just have just been using a flat mop and pushing round the wipes with that. Then I hit on the idea of getting a steam mop but after having heard people say they don't use…
