OS Daily Tuesday 18th Nov
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, but looks to be damp underfoot still.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready to go to work.

Dinner last night was gammon, egg, onion sauce, potatoes, peas and green beans, ice cream for dessert for those that wanted some. Tonight will be Hunters Chicken, pots and veg. Hairdresser is coming tonight to re-blond me and cut the menfolk’s hair, can’t wait as mine really needs tidying up. Also have a plasterer coming over to give us a price to re-plaster DS1’s bedroom wall – we stripped the wallpaper and 2 big patches of plaster came off with the paper!

DS1 and myself went to the motorbike shop yesterday once he got home from work, and they gave him a price to buy his motorbike from him, which was slightly more than I thought they might, so we accepted the price and they gave us the money there and then so he’s bike’s gone. It just seems really silly to keep it when he’s got a car, we have to store it and keep it safe and locked away. I will be ringing the insurance company this afternoon to cancel the insurance, there won’t be any refund as it’s about due to be renewed shortly.

Work yesterday was steadily busy, but I managed the work quite well, except there’s still some issues with the computer access – but a lot of this is caused because the computer system’s were altered whilst I was off and they are having teething problems with the whole system at times. I’m working at the other office today, so am hoping to be able to sit with someone else today and listen in on the calls then tomorrow hoping I can serve customers back at my normal office.

Take care x

Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

Had great fun yesterday. I walked into the kitchen and heard a loud hissing noise, the flexible pipe to the hot tap had split and was spraying water all over the inside of the cupboard, under the cupboard, all over the floor.... I turned the water off and mopped up as best I could. When we put the kitchen in, we added stoptaps to each water pipe so we could turn them off individually. I was going to turn the hot one off then turn the mains back on so we'd at least have cold water but master tru had a spare bit of pipe and used that to replace the split piece by the sink. He's a carpenter so I have no idea why he had copper pipe among his supplies, but I'm glad he did :D I've left the plinths off and the carpet pulled back so it'll dry out properly.

Then I went up to the bathroom and the shower was leaking. I unscrewed the hose from the shower and there's a trickle of water coming out of the sealed unit thing inside. I don't think it's worth fixing but will check with a plumber friend later.

Work this morning then housework later. There's not much to do and I'm tempted to ignore it, but I want to keep on top of it – it seems to descend into chaos really quickly in this house, lol

    Morning all,

Running a bit late this morning, did not want to get out of bed at all ! Off to work for me we have some particularly changeling clients today so should be interesting.

I have a sausage casserole in the sc all ready to be turned on as I leave the house, I need to get a crusty loaf out of the freezer to have with it, tbh I am not sure I will like the casserole I am not keen on sausages, but we will see !

Sistercas thinking of you and your family, are the girls ok ? xx

    Have good days all xx

    Hi everyone,

Bit of a roller coaster day yesterday - DD and I found the perfect venue for her wedding (she wants something informal). It was a woodland setting where you can put up tipis or yurts for the ceremony and reception. Unfortunately you have to commit to hiring out all the posh tents and lodges on the site and I think the risk is just too great. We could just about afford it but if half the tents weren't occupied it would send the cost soaring. Back to the drawing board!

I have a short day at work today because I'm off to London to see my homeopath. She's a lovely friend of DD and I must admit I was a bit of a sceptic but she has really helped DD with some health issues so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I've been taking remedies since August and I have noticed an improvement in some of my problems.

Sorry, nothing OS to talk about really, hm celeriac and apple soup for dinner, I love celeriac which is odd because I hate celery.

Sistercas, I hope your birthday is as happy as it can be.

    Have a good day.

    Morning everyone.

So much water around you Tru - hope it's not raining to.

Two and a half hours to work and I find the car park closed off for a 'big delivery' - so trekked up the hill to another car park.

Came out all layered up with clothes only to find that it's really mild this morning, so had to stop and do a little discreet disrobing in a layby. :o

Made a large potful of chicken and chorizo casserole type thing and brought it with for lunches. I keep on saying I want to stop eating sandwiches and then don't get organised...so here I am all organised.

No idea what the day will bring apart from booking my car in for a service.

Hope everyone is doing well or better.

    Happy Tuesday.

  • Market day, off out shortly for fresh fruit and veg, a trip to the library and to see what stuff I can find for the fabric Christmas trees.

I got Sundays laundry dried outside yesterday, finished the towels off on the airer, have a load of coloureds to go out, expect some of it will dry, the rest will get finished off on the airer. Could really do with a washer dryer, but not buying one till my present machine goes down the pan. Its an Indesit, I have had it 6 years, no problems, just got a new door seal last year the other one was disgusting with mould.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I'm having another quiet day at home as I have lots of deliveries scheduled today especially my meat order which I want to put in the freezer as quickly as possible. Hubby and the girls gone off to work/school ok, I've been up since 3.30 as I couldn't sleep so I will try for a nanna nap later on.

I'm making pasta bolognaise for tea assuming the meat delivery arrives in time otherwise it will be beans on toast :).

My CMHT lady will be here in a minute so this is just a quickie. Hope everyone manages to have a great day, take care xx
  • Good Morning everyone, blue sky and sunshine here today but cooler in the breeze. We had a near neighbour call yesterday to say there has been a request for planning permission to a piece of land they back on to and today the tree fellers are on it cutting down and shredding and being very noisy. I understand the concern as we have two bungalows built far to close to our garden boundary for comfort and though we objected it was passed and they were built a few years ago. The ultimate irony in this is that the people who live in the bungalow directly behind our house are the ones making the most fuss about being built next door to!!!

The lurcha is waking us up at 5 every morning at the moment, we seem to have a very noisy engined plane that passes overhead at that time and the engine throbs as it flies which upsets poor old Docky. Still, it's an improvement on being up with him all night in turns so although it's a disturbance (I can't stay upstairs or he gets very agitated) and I have to bring the duvet down on to the sofa he is settling on the half landing so it could be worse! We should have the blood test results from the vet today so we'll see if they throw anything up or not.

TRU bad luck with the burst pipe but well done for sorting it and the shower out so quickly, hope there isn't too much water damage around the cupboard.

REDRUBY how is little dog doing now? I hope she's on a level keel and enjoying her life at home with her family.

Take care of yourselves and stay warm, Lyn xxx.

I have been baking this morning, mince pies and gingerbread, that should keep the troops happy! Had a walk down to the Co-op as I needed eggs, managed to forget them in my big shop yesterday, despite having them on my list! Have also washed bedding. Another trip to the hospital later, and choir this evening.
