    Afternoon,
tru - what a 'wet' day for you yesterday, glad you managed to avert a major disaster.
Mrs LW - 5am is a bad time, I don't think I would be able to get back to sleep. Is Docky any better if you leave a radio on all night? I'm sure you have thought of everything, sorry if you've already tried.

Off work again, felt awful last night and this morning so managed to get a Doctor's appointment (phone lines open at 8.30 but you can never get through so went down there for them opening). I am, apparently, in perfect health! I have a virus so will have to get on with it! I will probably go back to work tomorrow, just wish the gunk on my chest would break up.

Put a load of washing on the airer in the conservatory as it is quite sunny today and had hm veggie soup from the freezer for my lunch. May go for a little nap!

Hope you are all ok, take care. XX
  • Afternoon all,

The time seems to be flying by at the moment. Had a lovely walk this morning and a coffee 'n' chat with my friend. Managed to get some more apples. Goodness knows why the farmer leaves them to rot.

Feeling very tired today, not the sort of tired where you need to go to sleep IYKWIM, just feel like I need to lay down which isn't like me at all.

Need to go and clean the bathroom and downstairs loo. Pork and apple casserole for dinner tonight.
  • Hi Camelot, it doesn't make any difference really, we do leave a radio on in the study and also the light on in the utility room particularly if we're due bad weather as the noise of the rain upsets him but he's at least letting us sleep for most of the night so it's better than it was. I can never get back off at 5am either so I take my duvet downstairs and curl up on the sofa and stay warm and sometimes doze a little.

    Afternoon all,

apologies for going awol on you but I'd got some real life issues to sort out. Things that were robbing me of my joy but I'm in a much better place now.

Thanks for your messages. They were much appreciated.

Went to visit Mom this morning. She talked and talked the whole time I was there. Her face lit up when she saw me walk into the room. I made all the usual comments (its hard when I don't understand a thing she says) but she appreciated me being there. The nurse wanted to sit with us before I left and wanted some family information, thoughts and wishes on Mothers 'end of life' care plan. Of course, this is something the nurse would have spoken to Mom about if she was mentally able to converse with her but as she isn't its down to me and my brother now. Such an awful conversation to have in front of her about our wishes if she needs resuscitation at any particular time. I said I didn't want to see her suffer. After having a series of mini strokes her recovery has been poor and her quality of life with the dementia has made what little improvement worse. At the end of the day I told the nurse I would go with whatever the decision the doctors and my brother make and I would stand by them. Pretty difficult to have the conversation with my Mother by the side of me who was quietly emptying the contents of my handbag on to the table.

Housework almost completed. I managed to throw the vacuum round after I'd walked to and from Mothers. I must be getting fitter.

Blood test results came back normal thank goodness. No adjustment needed in my medication.

Southern fried chicken for tea. Not sure what else to do with them though. Youngest wants chips and I want wedges. I'll probably go with the chips as its quicker.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all;

What an awkward way to have that conversation  Glad your mum did not pick up on any of it.

Managed to hang out some washing and used some time while DH was not resting to hoover hall. stairs and our bedroom which had been annoying me for ages. Constantly trying to sneak calories into him and just about to do another milk shake concoction of around 800 calories.

Making home made burger with salad for tonight and have sausages for dd who will not eat beef.

Dishwasher packed up a day ago and have been so pleased an engineer will come to sort it out tomorrow morning. I have been trying to make sure everything is as sterile as I can so DH does not pick up anything.

We set off next week for dd's wedding down south but if DH is still poorly may have to let dds take our big suitcases in the car on Wednesday and then travel by train on Friday with just light luggage and meds etc.

So far have had five cold calls today which are driving me round the twist as I have to rush to pick up so it does not disturb DH and in case it is the hospital or GP. I got so fed up I told the last one that I considered it to be harassment and to "Go Away!!!"

    Hugs to all.

  • DH's colleague's Funeral went well this morning, the church was packed and it was a really nice service, she had arranged a lot of the service herself before she died.

I have done a lot of washing which I will bring in soon and finish it off on the airers in front of the stove.

I am making a nice warming sausage stew tonight, with some kale from the garden.

Elona have you tried milkshakes and soups with chunky veg and lots of crusty bread or dumplings?
When my Dad had cancer he was prescribed high energy drinks whicch he hated, especially the vanilla one so we made broths, stews and milkshakes as above and he loved his chocolate or a nice big squishy cream cake

Must get this washing in before it is totally dark

Thanks for the ideas. Once his mouth and throat hurt less I should be able to do some of them. I have been adding energy drinks to C****an as a sort of milk shake as he can't chew and hot stuff seems to hurt.

I gave him so much cream sneaked into stuff I think I have put him off for a long time ;)

Fingers crossed things improve a bit by next weekend.

I know, what would have happened if Mother didn't agree with what I'd said? It would be like I was giving them the go ahead to let her die without intervention. I like to think she was too 'away with the fairies' to understand any of it but she did like my handbag.

The nurse will be having the same conversation with my brother apparently but I doubt if it will be in front of Mum. In fact she said it would be in the confines of the GP's practise.

I do find myself in such awkward positions at times.

    Hester, hows your MIL?
