O/S Daily Thursday 20th November 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, but looks to be dry underfoot with very little breeze. Certainly turning much cooler too.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready to go to work.
Dinner last night was Hunters Chicken, mash, carrots, broccolli, green beans and peas, there was cheese and biscuits for those that wanted some. Tonight is spag bol, I’ve got a cherry pie in the freezer so will cook that – so that will be dessert.
Guy is coming today to fit the black box to DS1’s car, so he’s taking mine to work and leaving his at home with me, not sure what time guy is coming so it’s one of those horrible “waiting in days” – although I’ve got more than enough to be doing at home – the house is a complete tip, the dirty wash basket is full, piles of clean and dried washing that needs ironing and the whole house needs a good clean from top to bottom – so where to start! If I think about all of it – it’s a bit overwhelming, so I’m going to concentrate today on – getting the washing done, dried and ironed and cleaning both bathrooms, running the hoover over the upstairs, then dusting and hovering downstairs and a general clean – then next week when I’m on holiday – will target different areas for some deeper clean and tidy. I have a lot to do next week as I’m so behind with the Xmas prep – so by the end of next week ideally I would like to be finished the Xmas shopping, have made the xmas cake and xmas puds – so at least all of those bits will be done. Also need to get birthday card for DS1’s 18th birthday – he still insists he doesn’t want a party, get-together, meal out etc – so feel like it’s going to be a bit flat for him – but he doesn’t seem that bothered, as he now has his car which we bought for him.
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
Last day at work for the week!
Took my dirty grubby filthy car to the car wash yesterday - three blokes took 20 minutes to get the muck off. Now I can see my alloys again.
Got lots of little jobs to get through inbetween working. Lunch is the remainder of my chickeny thing, it's really tasty and it fills me up enough to not really need anything in the evening.
Hope everyone is doing well or getting better.
Happy Thursday.0 -
Morning All
I am full of snot! The sore throat, temperature, skin ache and various other symptoms of the last few days have given way to a full blown cold! My nose is running like a burn but strangely I feel a little better. Went back to work yesterday so I was kept busy.
DD was off yesterday so we went to !kea after work to get her some shoe storage boxes, also took a dress back to W@rehouse that I bought when I was down south as it had a couple of catches on it. Ended up in Sainsbugs and got some fantastic bargains, especially rolls and bread so my freezer is absolutely bursting now. Also got some little kalanchoe pot plants for 29p each so they have brightened up the kitchen windowsill.
We had a quick chicken stir fry for tea and I will have some more hm tomato soup for lunch, DD has said rolls, she is working at the Country Living Christmas Fair in Glasgow today so needs to take enough food to keep her going, it's very expensive there.
tru - are you still employed?
Glad to hear that our OS doggie friends are doing well, hope it lasts, hugs to all, take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Feels colder here today although not been outside yet, off to work for me another busy day I expect, but one of my favourite days client wise.
Something and chips for dinner will go and rummage in the freezer after this to see what there is. Shopping being delivered tonight.
I need to do a wash too which will go on the airer.
Little dog has decided that she no longer likes her favourite brand of dog food although we have a fair stock of it, we bought the hedgehog some of those big sausage things wrapped in plastic (bit like giant liver sausage) and she will eat them and chicken, so the hedgehog is having the expensive dog food and Little dog is having cheap as chips hog food ! :rotfl:
My mums Birthday today so off to see her later on and take her card and present.
Have a good day all and Hugs to Sistercas xxx0 -
Morning :hello:
Well I told boss 1 at work that I have to leave (boss 2 was out). I was wondering if I was doing the right thing (although I knew I was really) until he said that they'd been planning to give me more hours, on my own in the shop, selling. I came home knowing I had 100% done the right thing for me. I said I'd go in today and monday because they have customers to visit and they were already booked but then I'm done. I was so relieved when I got home, I had a headache for the rest of the day but was much more relaxed than I've been for weeks. I'm still waking up at 4am with a knot in my stomach though, but I think that'll stop when I've left the job.
Not much to say really, except I'm looking forward to lunchtime and being homeI'll get a bit of housework done then make something nice to eat for 3pm. The Christmas Shoes is on telly, I've since it lots of times but I still love it

Hi everyone,
Tru, well done for getting that weight off your mind. I am quite enjoying working again at the moment but I can do what hours I like when. They also know that I will stop if I get fed up. I feel very lucky to be in the position where I don't have to work in a job that's causing me stress any longer.
Nothing to report here - I'm just about to leave for work. Can't think what to do for dinner, maybe pasta and meatballs.
Have a good day.0 -
Good Morning everyone, I'm off for a few days with the girls this morning so I'll try to post if I can and read along to keep up whenever I'm able to.
Looking forward to my visit to Zebra today and to the concert on Saturday very much. I'm going to get in as many cuddles as I can.
REDRUBY Little Dog is a very clever girl, and you are a very good Mummy, even the hedgehog as benefited, How your post made me smile. Wonderful that the small one is doing so well!
Look after yourselves and stay warm, Lyn xxx.0 -

Afternoon all,Morning....off this morning to get my postponed eye op done. Fingers crossed!!
Hope all goes/is going well.
Tru I can sympathise with how you feel about the job. Ive tried going back to work a few times since the I had the kids but although I coped after a fashion, I couldn't handle the stress between home and work, oh and the women I worked with.... right female dogs the lot of them. I'm not in any rush to repeat the experience. The thought scares me.
I have my Grandson today whilst his Mummy is at work. I wish the dogs wouldn't randomly bark when he is asleep as they wake him up. :-(
Lasagne for tea, its quick and easy.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Oh I'm definitely with you on the giving up a stressful job front! I gave mine up in June and it was such a relief, have a much better, nicer job now...fewer hours and a longer drive, but don't get shouted or sworn at, I was genuinely worried that I would be assaulted physically.
I'm hoping DS13 will make pizza for tea, then he has Scouts and is getting his Gold Award. DS16 has his GCSE Awards presentation tomorrow afternoon, so we will be going to that, he was not impressed that he has to wear smarter clothes for this formal event during a normal school day! That reminds me I need to iron his shirt!
So tomorrow morning need to cook a stew in the slowcooker and a shepherds pie for Saturday evening, get some washing through and clean the bathrooms.0
