Trying to go back to the mop and bucket

For years now I have just used floor wipes, I live in a small flat and don't have much lino so haven't though it worth bothering with a mop and bucket. I just have just been using a flat mop and pushing round the wipes with that.
Then I hit on the idea of getting a steam mop but after having heard people say they don't use theirs and they can be more of a faff and are not worth it just for small places, I've been put off that idea.
So, after wondering if my floors are properly clean with the wipes, I've gone back to the string mop and bucket again.
I can't see much difference in the floor to be honest, all the string mop does is get into the corners more but the floors don't shine or look any cleaner than when I use the wipes.
Do I need to preserve with this or should I go back to the floor wipes or give into the steam mop idea?

have you tried one of the mops with what looks like thick J-cloth strands? I find it much better than the string ones. you can dry the floor better with it. if I have my steam cleaner out for something I will do the kitchen and bathroom floors with it - at least once a year then, they are 'clean enough to eat off'!
oh and I don't use floor cleaner - just a splash of vinegar in the water.0 -
I use this mop, it's the best one I've had. And I've had a few, I can tell you!

I have lots of hard flooring downstairs and have a steam mop. But I don't think they are brilliant for edges.
For upstairs bathroom I tend to use a floor cloth, it's quicker to get on hands and knees and wipe than heat up the steamer. It's not that big a floor area, so cloth isn't exactly hard work.
I use microfibre cloth.Bossymoo
