Shopping and money management..
So my question is, how do you all manage to make your money last all month. I have a set amount for the month but havent worked out how to manage it properly.. it seems to just "go" and i end up with just enough at the end rather than a divided set amount. No matter which way i shop, plan, cook etc. I still havent managed…

Lentils for bulking out food....never again!
Hi all, I got two kilos of carrots in Aldi for a song. So, I chopped, blanched and froze half. The other half I made a carrott, lentil and cumin soup. I just happened to have lentils and decided to chuck them in. I soaked them overnight too as I wasn't able to make soup till next day. Bear in mind that I have never eaten…

Storm coming
Early warning of storm due to hit UK late Sunday. Gusts could reach 80 mph:eek:. Things I will be doing include making sure there is nothing in the garden that can blown around and get damaged. Making sure cloches and cold frames are well pegged down. Might get the wind up torch ready and a few candles out just in case...

My mum (born 1942), was a very modern mum and not at all OS. She was a career woman who couldn't cook and like fancy clothes and cars. We had au pairs to do the housework, and either dad cooked or we had ready meals. So how did I become so OS? My lovely granny (born 1907) was as OS as they came and I spent a lots of time…

Cheap flour - a false economy??
Hi everyone, I have decided to get back into breadmaking and baking for the family instead of wasting a fortune on processed junk :) In the past I have always bought 'good' brands of flour thinking that more expensive must equal better results. However, after a quick look on tesco I've noticed that massive price…

Went out to the freezer this morning, (it's in the outhouse attached to the house) and the 2 sides that I can see are wet with condensation. It's a big freezer 4ft long. I've never noticed it before and it's all ways been outside. Approx…
