Hmm. £12.55 left on food budget until April 20th. Help!
I've been setting my food budget at £40 for the month, topped up very occasionally by bits and bobs purchased by my mother since about March 2009. This is entirely based on personal challenge, rather than a lack of funds. The less I spend on groceries, the more I can put into savings to move out! So, my budget says I have…

Cleaning florescent jacket?
My oh has just given me his flurescent yellow padded jacket for cleaning. He's a lorry driver and it's covered in oil and grime - I've washed it once with my normal detergent but the oil and grime hasn't shifted. Anyone got any ideas what I could try - he's only had it about 8 weeks and as he delivers food to cafe's and…

Shopping budget keeps creeping up, any ideas?
I've used loads of the advice from this board over the years, and used to be able to do my shop for a family of 4 (4 & 5 yr old children) for £40 a week (about 2 years ago). I've gradually noticed the shopping budget creep up, and being a bit of a geek set up a spreadsheet for our spends account to see where all our money…

Hi Old-Stylers, hope you can help me with this one please! Is it something we are allowed to do here in the uk? Does anyone have experience of rearing…

Re-heating frozen curries
I've spent the past few weeks trying to get into the OS way of thinking, by doubling up on my cooking of meals with meat, and freezing half. Over the past few weeks we've built up a collection of curries, and chillies, and now the freezer near full, so it's time to start thinking about eating everything up! What's the best…

Beans instead of oil or butter in baking ????
I've just found a Youtube video about cooking unsoaked white beans in an electric pressure cooker (I wanted to know how long to cook them in my non-electric one) but when she had cooked her beans the American woman on the video whizzed some of them with water which she says she uses instead of oil in a brownie recipe (she…

sticky drawer
As in chest of drawers...not the other kind ;) I have an all wooden chest of drawers ie the runners are made of wood too. They're really really sticky and regularly get stuck for ages. I was wondering if there's anything I could "grease" them with to make them more slidey? thanks :j

Repairing expensive welly boots
Has anyone done this? I have got a pair of Hunter wellies and I love them. They are so comfy and I can (and do!!) walk miles in them. I can't imagine ever going back to 'ordinary' wellies because I just wouldn't be able to walk the distances in them I currently do. I can wear my Hunters all day and they're really comfy.…
