OS Daily Thread - Monday 22nd March

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 22nd March. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning lovely OS-ers! HSINhouseWindow02HL.gif
welcome2.gifmineallmine - Nice to read you and hope your back feels better soon.
jc - big hugs hon, hope you feel better today. Glad your husband did well in his grading. Oh and I had to laugh at you and 'little John'.
Bargainbird - that sounds like a good diet!
redruby - That is dreadful! Your poor daughter and their customer service obviously leaves a lot to be desired.
Joyfull - my seedlings were like that til yesterday when some of them got more space to spread out in..giggle.gif
JackieO - I hope Big Frank makes it home today.
Poshpaws - We had a cat when I was little called Poshpaws, she was gorgeous. Glad the cider vinegar is helping in some way, it's marvellous stuff.
Jelly - I have mobility problems and have a home help and a wonderful OH, but I cannot do much at all, so I can empathize. I do what I can, but I watch him work so hard and it makes me feel awful sometimes.
Mait - We haven't had much luck with boot sales, think we only did one last year. My OH said people only want to pay ridiculously cheap prices for things though if you have anything bigger or more expensive they will probably sell. I think it's worth doing one or two to see what kind of market your area has. Hope you feel better after your surgery.

I see no one commented on me announcing that I was feeding tadpoles the other day.. Either noone reads my posts or I am considered so eccentric that no-one bats an eyelid at me nowadays. giggle.gif In case anyone is interested, they hatched out of the frog spawn given to me by my friend whose pond is full of the stuff about four days ago and they are eating lettuce as they love it!:rotfl:

Spent a lot of Sunday potting on seedlings from their lil plugs into pots. Haven't done even half of them but then that is because all the onion and carrot seeds germinated so I have LOTS. I concentrated on the peppers, chillis and tomatoes and did a few red onions before I had to give up. Will do more as soon as I get time.

HShungry.gifBreakfast will be a fruit pot; lunch savoury rice I think and for Dinner we will make some form of pasta bake, all from the store cupboards.

I hope everyones week starts well. With love, light and squishy grouphug3.giffor anyone who wants one.

    Morning Diva.

Not many takers this morning. I shall get ready for work soon. Busy Sunday so I am getting even further behind with old work. What is it with alcohol and violence?
New phone arrives today. Does everything but make tea apparently.. Nokia X6. Good thing is if I hate it I can send it back within 14 days. I guess it's better not to buy from a shop no cooling off.
The phone is not money saving that's for sure, but it's is a toy for me.
Cold and damp here.... I want the sun back

    Cheers folks...

Good morning Diva, N9eav & all who follow,

Cool and damp here too this morning. Yesterday was gorgeous until about 6pm so we were very lucky.

Plans for today are to quickly whizz round dusting & hoovering before I go and swish the bathroom over. The kitchen is already done and the WM has its 2nd load in as I did one overnight. Tea tonight is chilli with rice which is nice & easy as it's in the freezer from a couple of weeks ago. Sandwich for today looks like turkey (I froze a selection of them last week) I'll just add salad before I eat it.

N9eav Have fun playing with your new toy :) I got a new phone about a month ago and I hated it to begin with until I was used to it all - Nokia E72 - but I love it now :rotfl:

Diva You'll have to set up a FrogCam so we can all see whats happening. Glad they're liking the lettuce :T

With hugs to anyone who wants one and have a good day all.

Morning All. Diva I did miss your post about the tadpoles! It really must be spring if they're around! N9eav sorry the drink/violence combination caused hassle for you - it just shows how uncivilised people really are beneath the surface - a bit (well probably a lot) of alcohol and the veneer breaks down..
SunnyGirl your day is already off to a good start.
My day starts with a very messy kitchen. Ran out of dishwasher tabs yesterday so have loads of dirty dishes sitting on the drainer - couldn't be bothered to do them yesterday which is a shocking admission on my part.
Weighed myself as I thought (no, knew) the pounds were piling on (holiday, very little time for gym or walking in the three weeks since we returned, and a craving for sweets...) Suffice it to say I came downstairs and signed up for WWonline immediately! Have to say it looks very complicated finding my way around the site. Any tips anyone?
Have decorator arriving at 8am and I am attending a friend's funeral later this morning. Not a close friend, but someone we sang with a few years ago and who then moved away.
Weather here not damp - but grey again. I hate grey! Still, 5 daffs out now and loads of aconites and crocus. Spring is my favourite time for the garden and it's clearly all beginning to happen! Onwards and Upwards then!
(HUGS) for all who need one today. Hope you all have good times.
    Take care.

    Morning All

    Diva - I think I am the 2nd option - I don't bat an eyelid :rotfl:

Beemuzed - hope today goes OK for you.

    Monday again :(

Will be doing a little of everything today, housework paperwork and ironing. Had a lovely weekend but got nothing done. Have also spent too much and eaten too much so will be menu planning today focusing on the cheap & healthly. May do an online shop but possible don't need much so will go to Netto.

Not raining here at the moment but I think it is forcast. Yesterday the weather was lovely, very mild.

OH is at home today but on nights the rest of the week so will have some time to myself. Want to get my paperwork up straight so I can start spring cleaning.

Off now to wake up DD, have a great day.x

OOOh Diva - Frogs - my children would love them. They were desperately searching for the toad that I saw months ago in our garden last weekend. I'm happy (for the toad) to report that they didn't find him! Well this week sees me travelling up the M1 yet again so I need to be careful about what we eat so that I can save some pennies that way.

Tonight will be chicken tikka / chicken nuggets for the children. Tomorrow will be sandwiches somewhere along the M1 (picnic in the car is THE way to go!). Then Wednesday (having come back down the M1) I think I'll make a Bacon & Egg Pie - then I can make it today and leave it in the fridge. Not thinking as far as Thursday yet. Next weekend there is the Jumble sale which will very effectively clear out my garage and what was my dining room.

I still have a box of stuff too good to jumble or freecycle, so I'll charge up the digital camera and ebay it. Next week I have a friend coming to stay so that she doesn't have to pay for a hotel, and then it is the Easter Holidays. That will probably be expensive, but I'm going to tackle it head on and make sure that we have plenty of picnics and free days in the local park. Not because we have to to save money - but because it is good for the children to see we can have fun without spending.

Well, my first coffee of the day has cooled, so I'm off to make a start.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning all,

Looks like it will be a nice day today, :T, yesterday I bought a plum tree :T, so I need to get that in the ground, today or tomorrow, we have a house which backs onto the bottom of our garden, and their bathroom window is next to the garden, its frosted but I always feel like i'm being watched, so will cover it with a tree.

Going to ring the HSE later on too, Thanks Mrs Mix :T, it said its best to ring them, hopefully I will get an answer from b & q too.

Yesterday I cooked the leg of lamb (1/2 price sainsbugs), it was delish, there is enough for tonight, I might do giant yorkies to go with it, and enough for a shepherds pie on wed. There is also a load of sweede left, so an easy dinner tonight.

I am going to get on with painting the skirting in dd's room, primer today, and top coat tomorrow, so that I can hopefully start the walls next week.

I have a load or two of washing to do, and an online shop, I made a lemon drizzle cake, and 12 cupcakes yesterday, so that should keep them going for the week.

We had our big roast dinner at 6 last night, and by 10, OH was looking for more food,he never stops eating, and has a 28inch waist, thats just not fair !!

Ok better get on, have good days all xx

    Good morning everyone :D

Didnt get here over the wkend, I decided to give my house a spring clean and knew if I came on the PC it would not get done :rotfl:

We have loads of frogs and toads in our garden but no tadpoles (I think they live in the stone wall we have around our garden. My little dog has learnt not to eat the toads after picking one up in his mouth lol he was spitting for ages after :rotfl:

Not a lot on today as the house is clean (for today anyway) and the WM is on.

I have to take my little dog to the vets for his nails to be clipped and for the free dental check-up the vet is doing in March.

I hope everyone is feeling well today and ((hugs)) for those who are not or just neesds them.

Hope to drop back later :)

    Kind wishes
    H xx

    morning all,

MAM - i am sorry to hear about your back, there really is nothing worse as it slows yuo down at everything...

and MSD - i read about the tadpoles, and thought it was a euphamisim (sp) for something else, and thought i should leave well alone... :):):)

i went out on Saturday, and ended up spending a fortune, but i did have a great day out so i can't complain too much.... i'll just need to be a bit on the careful side as i'm going to the Rcky Horror next Saturday, and i still need to cobble together a costume...

the weather here is still beautiful, (sorry if your's isn't...) so i am sat at work eating porridge, and basking in the sun streaming through the windows...

i have to change bedding when i get home, and have a load of old vegetables that are destined for soup to deal with tonight...

    Morning,

Diva your post made me laugh and reminded me of when I was younger. I had three naughty brothers who collected frog spawn from the local pond and put in the shed and forgot about it. When my mum next opened the shed there were frogs everywhere. They scared my mum to death:rotfl:

It;s quite bright here, looks like it could be an ok day, fingers crossed:T

My seeds are looking good, the tomatoes and green beans are through and the courgettes just peeping through the soil.

Feeling dizzy today so wont venture out, but I will have to get on and type up DH paperwork ready for his meeting on Friday.

Tea is toad in the hole, with broccoli.Fancy baking something different so off to delve into the cookery books.

Well just about to send everone off to work and school before my first cuppa.

esmf73 why are you travelling up the M1 (sorry just being nosy)
Redruby I know exactly what you mean, I live in a family of tall skinny people whilst I am little and cuddly Oh um!
Will catch up later J x

N9eav, I've just got an X6....you are right about it doing everything except make tea!! It's a bit odd at first being a touch screen and I keep wiping the fingerprints off it :o, but I love it. I got a good deal with Vodafone, matched the deal I'd been offered and discounted the line rental so I only pay £22.50 a month for 500m, unlimited texts & internet :D

Not much OS going on here, OH has trotted off for the week again, back Thursday. Had a bit of a rugby fest over the weekend, Sale Sharks actually won on Friday night against Wasps, which was fantastic!! :j :j Then Saturday was Six Nations, and yesterday whilst dysoning, polishing & cleaning windows in the front room I watched the LV cup final between Northampton & Gloucester...that was a really good match, and I have to say I was pleased that the Saints won (sorry to the Glos fans on here!) :j

Ironing to do tonight, not sure whats for tea, we ate all the leftovers at the weekend ;) Need to pick up some salady stuff...I think eating to suit the cold winter has caught up with me so could do with trimming my weight a little :p

:grouphug: Hugs to those who would like one, love to Haribo, PenPin, Cranky & Halight...hope you are all doing ok?
