Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 23rd March. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning lovely OS-ers! HSINhouseWindow02HL.gif
Essex and Jackieglasgow - You must both really love me then if you didn't bat an eyelid, what a compliment!! smile_tongue.gifgiggle.gif:rotfl:
nimbo - I had an amusing retort to make but decided it was a little too risque for the Daily. :rotfl:
jc - I grow almost everything in pots. Peppers AND chillies can be grown on a windowsill if you buy the compact ones and tomatoes are fine in containers as long as you remember to water them well. I also grow carrots, garlic, shallots and dwarf green beans in tubs and pots.
Butterfly - Hope you managed to have a more relaxing day.
Julie - that made me laugh, thank you!
joyfull - I always find graveyards really fascinating, especially ones with a lot of history so I can see why you would like your task.
Gemma - they certainly should! I have the bowl on the table and everyone who visits is fascinated by them. Once they are growing legs they will be moved to a fish tank and once complete frogs, out to the sunken bowl in the garden that serves as a frog pond! At least that's what happened two years ago!
lowesy - hugs honey. Hope you find a reasonable driving school.
Sunnyday - My OH wants to make raised beds this year though he has never made anything like that before. We managed to get four scaffolding planks from freecycle and they are about 7ft long so plenty of wood available!
Redruby - bamboo is great BUT it grows like a weed. It sends underground shoots out and then pops up and it's hell to dig out. If you cut a shoot off two will come up in its place. Only plant it in the ground if it specifically says it won't spread/you are willing to keep it under tight control or if you don't mind it running riot.
Snoozer - No one minds you venting and we would rather you posted than didn't hon. Hope you feel a bit better today.
Looking forward to my Sainsburys order arriving today with all my meat in it! Our Approved Food order arrived yesterday so we had to find room in the cupboard for all the bargains. Not sure how 10 dark chocolate Mars Bars ended up on my order but I am sure we will find a home for them!
HShungry.gifBreakfast will be a fruit pot; lunch will be HM bread with ham and tomatoand Dinner is the rest of the pasta bake. We had some Covent Garden Tomato soup left over from the Morrisons Mothers day meal so used that as a base for the sauce and threw in onions, peppers, garlic and some grated carrot and celery. A few mushrooms, mushroom ketchup and the usual flavourings and it made a lovely tomato-y sauce and we just added bacon bits to it. Was really delicious.
With love, light and warm gentle hugs.giffor anyone who wants one.

    Morning from Cornwall.

Looks to be a wet one today.... Not much else to report work for me, college and school for the others, looks like rain later....

Got the BBQ out last night and did my pork chops on it. I think I shall use it a lot more this year... I got given 2 free bottles of gas, so why not?

    Have a good day.... Cheers

Morning Diva, N9eav and all to follow.

Diva - yes that was a compliment :D

Very misty here at the moment hopefully that means it will be a nice day. Looks like it has rained as well.

Normal stuff today. Ended up doing our shopping at Netto yesterday so that was nice and cheap. Popping into town at some point today, need to go to the library as a couple of books Ive ordered are ready. Will have a look in the charity shops and pop into M&S food as I got a voucher for my birthday.

Going to have a surf while I finish my tea, have a good one.x

    Good morning everyone.

It's cold out there today  with frost! Hopefully we'll get some sun too then before it clouds up again.

Normal day for me too I need to tidy up before I go to work and clean the sink & loo. Dogs & cats fed and DH has the dogs out now so they're done nice & early. WM on it's 2nd go there's not as much as yesterday thankfully - 4 loads plus a bedding one - as the older 3 children decided to muck out their rooms and 'found' lots of dirty clothes on the floors, behind wardrobes, under beds ...............

I got the ironing done last night and rehashed the meal plans as I'm cooking for 3 far more often than for 6. I have put some things in the freezer for DD, DS1 & DS2 to help themselves to and said that I'd like them home for Sunday lunches but I'm not too worried about any other night. It should stop the problem of me cooking for 6 when only 3 are here most evenings :p:)

I shall go and have a look at todays Flylady list then start getting ready.

Have a good day everyone & hugs to anyone who needs one xxx

Stroppy Jock  Hi & welcome to the Daily thread. Going back to bed sounds like a plan to me!

    Good morning you lot.

No, the clocks aren't broken, but I am up and posting before 7am. New regime, I want to try and get all housework out of the way before work so that I have all afternoon after school to do what I like!

Diva, I'm with Essexgirl, it was definitely a compliment!:D

N9eav I hope we get the weather for barbequeuing all year, I love eating outdoors.:j

Essexgirl I literally thought you meant surfing - Cornwall style!:rotfl:Maybe being so active this early in the morning isn't such a good idea for me.

    Stroppyjock, welcome, love the username!

Well, as Coco's season is now finished, she got to come along to dog training classes last night. Oh dear. She wascompletely overwhelmed the poor wee dog, far too many other dogs there for her, pulling like mad at her collar and desperate to have a nosey. The problems is , 5 times out of 10 she will have a nip, so I am a nervous wreck. The course leader was great though, even though halfway through I ended up in tears saying I thought it would be better if I went home:o. They pout a gentle leader on her after about 45 mins when it was clear we were both becoming a bit overwhelmed:o It made a huge difference, and she was much more subdued. Then we did some walking with three of the quieter dogs in the class after everyone else had gone, and she was like a different dog.

I hadn't been sure about the collar, but I'm a convert now. We had a laugh this morning though, OH was taking her for her walk, and I had to look up youtube to figure out how to get it back on her!:rotfl::rotfl:

Enough dog talk you must all be bored hearing about her by now. I hope everyone else has a lovely Tuesday, and those of you who have been unwell and worried, are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

    Jackie X

ETA Oops sunny, we cross posted, hiya!

    Morning all,

Looks like a nice day here :T I planted my Plum tree yesterday with the help of little dog, as I was digging the hole, she got in there bum up in the air, and dug it with me :rotfl:she is so funny, she was covered in mud.

Kathy thanks for the idea re the bamboo, but as diva said it spreads too quickly and I dont want the garden taken over with it.

Today I need to do a bit more painting of the woodwork in dd's room, I managed to get most of it done yesterday.

Last night I made a giant yorkshire (Sunnygirls nana's recipe :D), which we had filled with lamb left over from sunday, with gravy, sweede, peas and baby sweetcorn. It was delish, and OH (who was 2 hours late home due to him putting a nail through a gas pipe) devoured it.

Tonights offering will be pizza with salad, and also I will make a cottage pie with the rest of the lamb for Wed / Thurs.

Have not seen Donny for a while, hope she is ok xx

I phoned the HSE yesterday, they were very helpful, they took all the details down, and said that someone would be in touch, within the hour a man from the H + S dept of the local counil was on the phone, he wanted all the details, as he was off to visit the shop :T he was going to read them the riot act, as this was not the first time things had happened. I STILL have not heard from B & Q head office , will contact them again today.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning all

Love and hugs to those who are sad or poorly.

Sunny, bright but wet underfoot and rain forecast later. OH already left at stupid early o'clock and he has a meeting an hour's drive away after work so he won't be home til late - nice quiet evening for me! Dinner last night was leftover roast with leftover yorkies, mash and veg - was very nice and tonights dinner will be freezer surprise as it's just me and the boys - something quick and easy.

Work was reasonably busy yesterday so am expecting a slightly quieter day today but it's been rather unpredictable this last few weeks.

Decorating is coming along nicely, ceiling, and walls are finished just need to do the glossing - 3 doors and frames, skirting board and stair rails and spindles - basically the fiddly stuff but want to crack on with it now as the room looks so much better with the new colour - it will be lovely all freshly decorated and a new carpet. Will be cracking on with the glossing on my days off this week so we're going to be busy busy.

DS1 put the pizza topping on the scone base he made at school last week, he brought home the remaining pizza - said it was so nice he had to eat it and there was a little quarter left - but I did try a mouthful and it wasn't bad.

    No other OS to report.

Have to go and get ready for work.

Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

    Good Morning!

I'm feeling a bit brighter again today - hope it lasts the day!

Eventually spoke to my boss at 8 o'clock last night...I really didn't want to phone him! but he was great about it and I suggested if I felt any better I would come back before the week was up but he told me to take the time the doctor had given me. He said he didn't expect to see me this week after I took bad - I think because he was there when I was bad he appreciates i'm not skiving!

For a while I've wanted better fruit and veg - I got fed up buying veg from the supermarket and it being shrivelled after two days. Think i've been a bit spoilt as when I lived in England my Grandad had an allotment and I would often get my veg from him and nothing i've ever bought has come close to it in taste and 'shelf life'. So yesterday I managed to find a veg box scheme and I've placed and order for a medium veg box with potatoes and a small fruit box which will be £14.50 delivered - not sure if thats good or not. Thought I'd give it a try anyway.

Bought some new baking tins yesterday as mine were 'peeling' so might have to sweet talk DH into making me a lemon drizzle cake.... for medicinal purposes obviously :D

    Have a good day x

Hi - Good morning all. Stuck to menu plan yesterday (so am very pleased with myself). After school today we're travelling to look at new schools for the children after we move house in the summer. So I'm doing a packed tea which we can eat in the car. Will have to see what we've got in the freezer. Sent out email yesterday asking for help from other parents at playgroup yesterday at our Jumble Sale on Saturday. And have had LOTS of lovely replies back - meaning that it won't be as stressful as I'd thought which is great. We're hoping to raise enough money to take the children to a local activity centre (soft play) next week for the end of term party.

Have implemented a new program at home (on the advice of a parenting advisor) which I was sure wouldn't work - flipping kids have taken to it like a duck to water and it is (initially) working VERY well indeed. So - keep your fingers crossed that it continues to work.

Lots of hugs to everyone that needs it. xx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Good morning everyone :D

A frosty start this morning :( I was hoping to have seen the end of the frost.

Im so glad its a new day as yesterday was mad, I had to get my little dog Max to the vets for a pedicure and free dental check for 9.20 (I dont finish doing toast for the kiddies at school till after 9) then I had to get more bread for the toast club in the mornings and get my library to return my books so poor little Max had to sit in the car a few times, on top of all that my DS had a doc appointment at 5.40 then it was work. Whew what a day :rotfl:

Well today is a bit easier just all the beds to strip and make and put the washing on the line while I can :rotfl:

Thank you Diva for the info on bamboo as I did think about putting some in our garden to give a bit of privacy from the traffic comming from Matlock (I hate sitting on the patio and people twisting their necks like an owl to look :rotfl:)

nmlc I so glad the painting is comming on nicely, I need to start on my kitchen, I love the look of the rooms after they are done, so fresh :D

Jackie, Coco will get used to other dogs and you will both enjoy the classes, Max thinks all dogs his size are friends but any bigger he will bark at them in a squealy little yap the jacks have when scared :rotfl:

N9eav, I can not wait for BBQ weather, hopefully soon :D

Well I had better get moving or my 2 will not get to school :rotfl:

Kind wishes and hugs to all :D
    H xx
