Is there anyway of removing this? It's a black carpet, if that makes a difference. We've tried hot, soapy water, but the chocolate mark…

Help- preparing a shared meal
hi, I am doing a shared meal tommorrow for my housemates, two of them are trying to learn to cook as we do the meals. I wanted to do a curry and am swaying towards Dahl as it very "different" to the curries we have all experienced in the past. However, I have never done it before and am worried that a) should I put meat in…

£100 to kit out my kitchen...
So … we have just bought a new house in need of much refurbishment and will take entry on October 9th. We will not get to the kitchen for a long time (quite possibly a couple of years) because of financial restraints and so I need a temporary kitchen that will function for us even though it won’t be pretty. We will be…

White wine shelf life?
We just found what should have been a lovely sauvignon blanc at the back of a wine cupboard, which when opened was well past its best. We also found some chablis bottled in 98? Worth trying or likely to me in a dish where both white wine and vingar are called for?:o

I'm going to make a stock out of the carcass after and I'm not sure if it has giblets; if it does, they'll go in the stock. Any…

Stale cigarette smells!
Does anyone have any tips on getting rid of stale cigarette smells? The people in the flat downstairs have started smoking and it's making my lovely home absolutely stink! They never open their windows and a quiet word hasn't made any difference, not sure what else I can do. I'm dreading the winter coming along when…

Lightweight freezer/microwave containers
We've been using the aluminium foil containers for freezing mousaka & similar meals but they're not fuel or time friendly because foil can't be thawed & reheated quickly in the microwave, needing at least 20 minutes in a hot oven. Can anybody suggest an alternative lightweight container which doesn't take up a lot of…

How do you clean inside the tines of stainless steel forks?
I did various searches on this forum for this question but no success. I don't have a dishwasher; have tried soaking them in white vinegar and hot water. The inside of the tines have discoloured and so they look as though not been washed up properly.

gluten free cooking
Hi, This should possibly be on the grabbit board, but thought there might be more cooks reading here. I've just spotted Phil Vickery's new book 'Seriously Good gluten free cooking' on bookpeople for £4.99 (link here). It seems to get good reviews on Amazon. Niki

Economy Gastronomy - Old Style
There has been a lot of comments on how differently OSers would do Economy Gastronomy, so I thought it might be handy to start a new thread for people to post their ideas. The recipes have to be as tasty as those on the show and include a "tumbledown" or whatever you want to call it. Tinned baked beans on Homepride not…
