HELP
Im new to sugarcraft,as in never done one.
Im doing my first sugarcraft cake for my 3 yr old.
Does anyoone do some sugarcraft or cake decorating and know a cheap supplier to start kitting myself out with?
I have googled, and there is a lot of choice, but it would be nice not to get stung with pricing that im not familiar with.
I think this would be an interesting topic for a few of us.
Thankyou in advance.xxDDraig.

Hi!
I dont know of any supliers unfortunatly as i need to find one myself! I have a friend who is going to take me through the basics and we'll go from there i guess.
Book wise, learning though, try the library. I've just got out a ton of books to sift though as i've got a cake to make for my DD in 8 weeks! Good luck xxx0 -
If you new to it, it's worth going to a local supplier as they can sell you the right kit and may well run classes.
I use this site for bulk orders of sugarpaste, flower paste etc.
I recommend the following equipment:
cake leveller (unless you've got a VERY steady hand and good eye!)
round and square drums in various sizes (for your first cake, buy one 3 inches larger than the cake you're planning to make - remember that the cake should be an inch smaller than you want it to be eventually, as the decoration adds to the size... if you're planning a stacked cake, you'll need drums the same size of each of the upper tiers)
small palette knife/spatula
smoother
silicon board and rolling pin (big ones if you can afford it, small ones if you can't - flower paste is almost impossible to use with ordinary boards/pins)
Get some stripwood (about 3 or 4 mm deep, 8mm wide) from the DIY store and cut two lengths to use as guides for rolling icing so that it's even. It needs to be about 3mm thick or it tears.
Double-sided sticky tape for holding ribbon in place
Cutters for any decorations you want to make (start simple, with daisy-type flowers and butterflies.
I use regalice for pale colours, M&B for strong colours. I don't bother colouring up white sugar or flower paste unless I really do need a specific colour - in which case I usually make my own. I use chocolate plastique or cocoform rather than chocolate sugarpaste as I really don't like the taste of the latter.
Don't use liquid colours - paste or powder only.
Buy glue ready-made rather than making it up yourself.
Hope this helps!0 -
Thankyou. There is a supplier a few miles away that a friend of mine uses and is reasonable for the paste.I thought online might be cheaper for ejector cutters and tools.
My friend has told me she will show me anything i need to learn, she does beautiful ones.SWAGBUCKS Nov 17sbs redeemed; 2 x £5 Amazon
