Hi all,
After many years the MFI Wardrobes (melamine finish?) which were white when new have now gone all yellow and I would very much like to clean them and restore them to their original colour.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please as to what I should use for the job.
Many thanks.

Use a scouring cream? This might workMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Thanks will consider that. I just want something that will work and I can set about cleaning the wardrobes all in one go.
I'm sure it must be possible to bring back the white colour it's mainly the doors that have gone yellow, the carcass's are still white and it looks so odd as you can imagine.0 -
Do you know what's made them yellow? Is it smoke, or age?My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Try white vinegar with water. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Well age would be a factor as they must be well on 20+ years old, also for 7 of those years the bedroom was used by a smoker.0

We don't smoke but our 20yr old MFI wardrobes have gone yellow too. I've tried scouring powder and flash spray with bleach but nothing seems to work.0

Melamine is known to go yellow with age. I'm not sure on the exact chemistry but I'd imagine the product is slowly breaking down due to exposure over the years from sunlight. I doubt anything will change the colour back.0

You can buy special paint for melamine. We repainted our fitted wardrobes a few years ago and they are still as good as new.0
