Working Lunch BBC2
Hello - Wonder what anyone else thought? They have a sort of money saving article every Monday now. Today an interview with a lady who had lived for a year on £1 a day. Very dissapointed no real 'insights' just lots of blah blah - for instance 'saving' on holidays by National Trust type hols (ok fair enough). Pity the Beeb…

Hi Not sure if any of you have seen the new credit crunch recipes from famous tinned meat, spam? Apparently they can feed a family of four for just £4 and look pretty nice. Worth considering given the rising cost of some meat! Nice to be on here. Suki

Filo Pastry Recipes
Hi, I have just found 3 packs of filo pastry in the freezer and my husband tells me he doesn't really like the taste of it . Are there any recipes which might make it better for him? Main meals or puddings would be great - but not that fussy (unlike hubby) thanks very much

Window Quilts / Door Quilts
Has anybody made a window quilt - apparently used in the US to cover cold windows in winter? Instructions appear to be to make a lined quilt using batting and even insulation foil to go in the middle and then use ties or roman blind style cords. This seems to be a winter only window dressing. Any experience or comments as…

Wood burning fire
With the price of electricity rising sooo much we have decided to have a wood burner installed. The chimney is being built as we speak and we should have the whole thing up and running by the end of next week. We used to live in a house with an open fire that we put coal on but I have never used a wood burner before. I…

Recipe for a pasta bake sauce, using uncooked pasta, please?
Hi, Last week I went away with my mum for a few days and ended up buying a jar of the Homepride Pasta Bake sauce (Creamy tomato I think) - the stuff where you bung the sauce and some water into a pot with some raw pasta and bung it in the oven. I used to buy this ages ago, and it was quite handy. I have tried adding tomato…

19th Nov - Gran Sugar at Makros "SWEET" Deal
As sugar is a staple food and not many 'staple' foods ever seem to be at a good price, I was just letting people who have a Makro nearby know that from 19th of November and lasting only a fortnight, you can buy 10kg of granulated sugar for £6.50 (zero vat rated). That makes it .65p per kilogram. The nearest tesco gets to…

Homemade fudge turned into toffee
Hi all, I'm not sure of the best place to post this. I tried to make clotted cream fudge today as a test run for Christmas, but it appears to have turned into toffee. It's a very soft toffee, but not chewy and is rather yummy, but my OH loves clotted cream fudge so I wanted to make a batch for him for Christmas. Any tips…

I can buy marge, "milk" & flour. So any…

What is this piece of cookware called?
 Does anyone know what these are called (so I can search online or ask in a shop), I had a couple in the last rented flat and they were so useful. Made of metal with a non-stick coating and about 20cm/25cm in diameter. As I often cook just for myself they are ideal for a single piece of chicken, a steak, fish…
