OS Daily Monday 17th November

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 17th of November. It is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning Everyone
I woke at ten to three and just couldn`t get back to sleep so i thought that i may as well get up and make myself busy.:D
The washing machine has been emptied and refilled and i`ve put the hot water on using the immersion heater rather than the boiler to take advantage of the cheaper rate electricity at this time, i do like the set up of this as if the boiler were to fail ( hope that i`ve not jinxed it now) i can still use the immersion as a back up for hot water.
The breadmaker has finished so i`ve put it back on again for dough for rolls, i thought that i would try a different recipe for the rolls for a change so i shall see how they turn out, the dishwasher is now empty and all the kitchen cleaned and i now have a half shoulder of lamb in the remoska so no doubt as it begins to cook i shall start to feel hungry with the delicious aroma
Yesterday was a busy day so i never got the chance to post although i did read some of the thread and i`ve since caught up, we have a Wilkinsons locally and also one in town and there is a Dunelm in town too although i haven`t visited for a while as i try to go only if i need anything otherwise we will have a house full of things just because i like them
I did visit one of the local pound shops yesterday and bought 5 microfibre cloths and some freezer to microwave containers for soup so £2 well spent there
there are some real bargains around at the moment.
Yesterday was so mild and dry that i cut the grass on the back garden, it looks lovely and tidy now so i`m hoping to get the front garden done soon before we see the last of the dry weather, i used the new strimmer around the edges but found that the wire cartridge thingy that came with it didn`t last very long  all of 5 minutes to be exact, i read the instructions to find out how to change it but i cannot unscrew the bottom part that comes out of the base, Mr Sunny tried too so i think that we are a bit stuck really - seems a bit much to take it back because of this but if we can`t use it then i suppose we have to, maybe i shall have another try later.
I bought some new plant pots yesterday and some compost as i`ve used all mine up so as soon as the green house is cleared i can get some things repotted and start some more bits and bobs off, i hope to spend some time doing the clearing later so fingers crossed for another fine day.
My Asda delivery is coming this morning so i think that i shall have another cuppa and then take the houndies for a walk whilst the park is nice and quiet.
Have a good day everyone!

Good morning all. Work again today but at least I have my car back. DH used it on Friday because he was having the glow plugs changed on his car; they were playing up in the really cold weather and his car was taking ages to start so, fingers crossed, both cars are working well at the moment.
Spaghetti bolognese for dinner tonight with plum crumble for afters. Yesterday we had roast beef and all the trimmings and I made the crumble and a chocolate sponge for puddings during the week, and DH made a Victoria sponge (under supervision, it was his first attempt at a cake!) which turned out really well. I also made two batches of bread so I have enough HM bread for the week, too.
Well, I'd better go and have my shower.
Redruby - hope the hangover's gone!
(((Hugs))) to everyone. Taplady - a special (((hug))) to your friend.

Morning Sunnyday & all to follow,
Lucky I packed a cut lunch before I starting reading your post. All I know I"d be shattered if I got up that early and started my day. You deserve a medal. We had a really big storm here last night. Other suburbs got it worse and power hasn't been restored in some areas. It's made it cooler today and had slight drizzle.
Had a big day in the kitchen. I made bread, banana cake, gingernuts, passionfruit cordial, eggplant croquettes & some curried egg for DH lunches during the week. I did my menu for the week and wrote out my shopping list for tomorrow. I also caught up with some cleaning chores as we did a full day in YS house yesterday. We've pretty much finished the inside but will need to go down one night to hang curtains & do a few little things. I will take some photo's to show you.
Sunny DH has just bought a electric whipper snipper for me. I've always used an axe. :eek:I hope mine works a bit better than yours does.
Hope you all have a lovely day & <hugs> to those not well. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Morning all
Off to work soon, not sure what the weather is doing as I haven't looked out yet. My DD bought me some cake back from the German market she went to over the weekend, I'll take it to work to share, otherwise I'll eat it all.
I need to have a scrummage in the freezer for something for tea tonight. I've frozen the pork casseroles for another night. My other DD popped in yesterday on her way to B & Q, she was going to buy some loppers & seceters (sp), she was explaining to hubby that she resented buying them as she only wanted to clear her garden & once clear she wouldn't need them again. Hubby went to the shed & gave her ours, so that saved her some money & she was pleased.
Hugs to PP, candy, Mrs Mix, Jay, Smokey & anyone I've missed.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning you lovely ladies (and men),
This is a bit early for me, but got up with DH who ate his leftover roast beef dinner for brekky _pale_urgh....
Thought i'd enjoy the pleasure or an early night last night 9pm :T, only to be woken at 1.30am by youngest dog barking downstairs.... went to investigate....i know your all on the edge of your seats.....she had honked up all in her bed and all over kitchen floor .
Apologises if your eating your breakfast..... So sorted that lot out and struggled to get back to sleep:mad:. Baby then started disco dancing , so all in all i had a lovely restful nights sleep - not.
Anyway Toddlers today . Then off to Mr T's for a few bits. Then home to bake the flipping banana bread that i've been threatning to make all weekend..
Pitch black outside so can't do a weather report.... oh and i won a car seat on the bay of E last night for 99p :j only to discover that is doesn't fit into my car properly :rotfl:.
Well I'm gonna get off and get cracking before DD's wake up......
Have a good day

Hello everybody, I hope all is well wherever you are.
At work this morning, but back to do flylady list this afternoone. Got hubby home with Man Flu today  , so I hope he doesnt get under my feet too much.
Have to go through freezer to make menu plan for week, want to run it down before doing the big Xmas shop. Tea tonight will be whatever I can conjour up from the depths of the great icebox!
Am also going to visit local library this week to order a few books in. I dont know about you but Ive got into the habit of buying books. I try to get it them for a bargain price, but Im spending far too much on them. I realise I can save more money by borrowing them from the library instead of owning them, so am going to investigate this further. Im talking more about cookery/gardening books rather than fictional reading.
I recon this could save quite a few pennies over the month/year. I just have to wean myself off my favourite booksites.
Anyway, off to get ready for work - and squeeze in another cuppa.
Have a good day everyone - hugs to all who need.
