A special diet challenge for you

I I've dropped in from the DFW boards to issue a challenge.
Two of my kids occasionally need a restricted diet. I cannot get any ingredients on prescrition any more (to complicated to go into), so I have to buy/make everything myself.
The restrictions are:
Dairy, Soya & Wheat Free.
I can buy marge, "milk" & flour.
So any and all suggestions welcome.
Thank you for your time.

Rugbymum - are you looking for recipes that are free from dairy, soya and wheat?

What about a fish pie made using a white sauce made with corn flour and water, or oat or rice milk?

    Chilli and rice

    Risottos
    Casseroles thickened with cornflour
Meat or fish grilled or roasted

    HTH :D
  • Big or little kids Rugbymum ?

    Off the top of my head -meat, bean or lentil stews using passata/tinned tomatoes as the liquid and lots of other veg. Good combos are;
    chicken, mushroom, green lentils
lamb, chickpeas and apricots with a morrocan/middle eastern spice blend (Bart's are good)
    beef, kidney beans and carrots
    pork, cannellini beans

Curries and rice, stir fried meat or fish, veg and rice -without soy sauce

Grilled chicken, meat, fish rubbed with a spice blend served with salad, salsa (chopped tomatoes, chillies and other veg like avocado, cucmber, sweetcorn, onion) plus potato wedges or jacket potatoes.

Pilaff -rice plus a small amount of meat, fish or chickpeas, lentils some diced veg and some dried fruit.

Chilli con carne, bolognese sauce over baked potatoes, keema curry (mince curry), meat balls, burgers-these last 2 do not need breadcrumbs.

Roast lunch- use cornflour to thicken gravy.

Baked potatoes filled with baked beans, chilli, sweetcorn and tuna mayonnaise, ratatouille, prawns in mayonnaise

    Bacon, eggs and beans

Omelettes cooked in oil, chachouka -eggs baked in a sauce of tomatoes and peppers, egg curry, egg and chips

You shouldn't need special ingredients for any of those.

    Hi nessie
Looking for recepies and any spotters for cheaper basic ingredients ie "milk", flour, marge etc.
I forgot to say the kids are bigger and complete control freaks when it comes to food. ALL veggies are treated with caution as is any food that might hide veggies in! :D
I understand the psychological reasons for it but it doesn't stop it being a pain in the b*m!

    thriftlady - WOW :j you :A
I have to careful with stock cubes many contain wheat.
I see our minds work on similar lines - I already do cook most of these.
As I pointed out in my previous post my kids are "allergic" to fruit & veg and would often rather go hungry than eat them so I am a bit limited.
    thank you

  • What milk do they drink currently? We have soya which is no good for (all?) of you but you can make rice milk, oat milk and other grain or nut milk with the soya milk maker that we have which came from http://www.wholisticresearch.com/shop/home/m/Shop/id/788/page/1/

Clearly it requires some investment but it means you have total control over what goes into the milk that your kids drink and in our case we've found only having to store soya beans rather than cartons of soya milk has made life much easier.

Otherwise as said, rice, lentils and beans are your friends I'd imagine!

  • For stock, bouillon doesn't contain any wheat (got a friend who is coeliac so I'm sure) and is very nice....

    Would they eat beany/lentily things?

The kids have rice milk. The budget being what it is the milk maker is out of the question.
    Thank you for the suggestion.
