Homemade fudge turned into toffee

Hi all,
I'm not sure of the best place to post this.
I tried to make clotted cream fudge today as a test run for Christmas, but it appears to have turned into toffee. It's a very soft toffee, but not chewy and is rather yummy, but my OH loves clotted cream fudge so I wanted to make a batch for him for Christmas. Any tips on how to make it more fudge-y?? I don't own a sugar thermometer, should I get one?
Thanks very much

Sounds exactly like my fudge last time I attempted it :rotfl: Sorry not to be of any help, but fudge is the one thing that has depfeated me in the kitchen and I had a sugar thermometer too.0

Fudge needs to be beaten, really hard, until it's grainy. Takes a good 15-20 minutes by hand or 10-15 in a kenwood.
if it doesn't get beaten enough it will become toffee.
It also won't keep for more than a couple of days with fresh cream in it

Thanks! This one is just a trial run! I'll be making his fudge on Christmas Eve and i doubt it will last until Boxing Day!
