Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 16th November. It is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning everyone!
Not good news on the America front - he was asked to go see his specialist today and now he won't tell me what was said, which leads me to think it's not good news. (though not sure what good news would be right nw..) anyway, I am laughing and chatting and keeping him company for the evening (Montana evening), so maybe he will tell me later.
N9eav - well done on your winnings, that was a nice suprise!
Daisy - couldn't have put it better myself!!
stefb - take pics of the pinata and show us plsssss!! And don't worry about the lady and the cake, my OH and I frequently disagree on how nice a cake is... I bet the other 47 people who bought them loved them!
Lesley - I was sad that Daniel left the X factor. Though I knew he would once Rachel was the other one.. I know Rachel has a great voice, but I really don't like her attitude at all.
Beth - hope you had a great evening hon
Kaat - how is George doing?
Ok, well war nearly broke out here when the OH found that all but one of the remaining hobnobs had been eaten by J, my lodger... But I promised him I would make some more today and that we could put half of them in a separate container and keep it in the bedroom... Either that or make a different biccy, but Ian does love the ginger hobnobs..
6th layer of papier mache done on the fish, plus two big eyes and we attached the string for hanging it up too. Will be doing the scales out of crepe paper tomorrow and paint the fin and tail bright red I think.
OH and my godson put some shelves up in our utility room yesterday which should help with storage etc down there. My OH has been a real grumpy pants the last two days as he has a heavy cold and cough and feels lousy, but had to work. The joys of self employment at the weekends!
Thinking of having something easy to cook for dinner today but it will depend on how well the OH is. Have lots in the freezer and store cupboard so sure we can cobble together something.
Hope everyone who is poorly is feeling better, and huggles to all who need or want them.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Hi MSD - (((hugs))) to your friend. Your calls to him must bring him a lot of comfort.
I'm up early today because I have my own work to catch up on before I go back to covering in my old job tomorrow. DH has said he will do the ironing and anything else that needs doing (apart from cooking the roast!). The ironing is not too big a pile so I will get him to run the hoover over, wash the kitchen floor and hang the washing out if the weather's OK.
Dinner will be some leftover roast beef, roast potatoes, broccoli and carrots and I'll make some sort of pudding. I shall also make a couple of batches of bread to last us the week.
(((Hugs))) to everyone who needs one and hope you all have a great Sunday.

Morning.
I have not looked out of the window yet, but presume it's damp and dull........I was right, just looked.
Went to Plymouth by train yesterday for a little shopping, not too bad although did not get much. People seemed to be spending plenty, so it was not all doom and gloom. The train home was a nightmare. A 2 carriage train for 1000 people. Needless to say once it was crammed full like the tube in London the rest of us could not get on. I mean how stupid can you get? Saturday shopping go home time and a tiny train!!!!
I think they got a few buses going for the those that needed to get off at small stations, the rest of us waited for the next one which was larger. Again it was like a cattle truck, but we got a seat in the good old fashion game of push in and shove everyone else out of the way.
Today will be take dog for a walk to the paper shop. I have a coupon for 50p off the Express, but I want the mail as it has a free Oilver CD in it. Do I pay 70p more for the DVD?
Church then roast chicken (Aldi was cheap for fresh chickens). Loaf about and watch TV....
cheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning,
N9eav, that has reminded why I was so pleased when I gave up commuting to London many years ago (pre-kids). I could never imagine going back to having to cram onto trains/buses like that daily..Eugh.. Well done on your lottery win too!
Kathy, glad you are enjoying the job, but am sure you will enjoy stopping again too, lol! I'm up early as I'm about to start typing my letters for the office so I can potter the rest of the day.
Diva, just you being there is probably such a huge help to your friend, a bit of chat about normal everday stuff is good. I'd never thought about making pinata's, you sound so creative!
Got pork steaks out of the fridge to cook for dinner yesterday & they smelled gross (despite being 2 days inside the display by date) so had to troll back up to Mr T's, which was not what I wanted with the flu, and get something else. I find I have to keep taking meat back that's gone off before the 'date' from there.
Dinner today will be beef casserole as got a bag of frozen cubed stewing steak to use, plus got some winter veg to chuck in & a jar of beef-in-ale sauce that needs using. Not hugely OS but I feel blurgh. Will chuck it in SC & make some dumplings later this afternoon & put jacket pots in to go with it.
Think the weather is going to be dry so must get a wash on too.
((((hugs))))) for all those needing them.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Thanks Squiggly! Like you, I couldn't stand commuting! I only have a ten minute drive to work at the moment (and it's left turns all the way there and all the way back - how easy is that?!). I don't know how people cope with long commutes every day; this is why I chose to work from home but I know I'm lucky to have the choice.

Good Morning All
Not raining here in Essex at the moment, hope it stays dry as OH wants to cut the grass.
Roast chicken here also today - think will have it lunchtime. Its a large chicken so will definately be some leftovers for tomorrow. Need to make at least 2 loaves of bread today, 1 for tea tonight and another for packed lunches.
Will also make some blueberriy muffins today and might try some hobnobs or maybe some rocky road. Other than that have a little washing and ironing to get done.
If it stays nice and mild later may take the dogs down the beach for their walk - we will see.
Have a lovely relaxing Sunday.

Morning all! Brightening up here in London...
Just feeding the baby, have sorted the washing and ready for a busy day.
Meeting three friends at different times.. Probably a bit ambitious but should be good. Got roast lamb for dinner and making leftovers into a curry for tomorrows dinner. Must get some soya mince so I can stretch it.
Diva I am inspired by you making a pinata - is there anything on here about how to do them? I'll google...
Got alot done last night and fitted in some reading which was a good treat - bit disappointed for Daniel on X factor.. still can't believe Laura is out, and I agree Rachels attitude is grating....
Have a good day all xx0 -
Morning everyone.. haven't posted for ages as I've been really busy with life
My Dad has finally had his operation, and is back home home and well on the road to recovery :j My studies seem to be taking over my life at the moment - only 2 1/2 weeks till my exam  Panic stations
Todays plans include washing/ironing/cleaning/making bread - the usual  Oh and I need to find a box big enough to package up half of Mr T's. My friend in Hawaii ordered some Christmas bits and bobs to be delivered to me, so I could package it up and post them to her in Hawaii (stuff she can't get out there) - well there's loads of it  No wonder she added a bottle of Baileys as a thank youAlso need to pop into Argos to pick up a birthday pressie I've reserved.
Dinner tonight will be Tacos - nice and easy
Need to check out freezer space - to see if there's enough room to put mince pies in - if there is I will be making frangipane mince pies today as well.
Have a lovely day everyone (((((hugs)))))Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
Morning all
I haven't read yesterdays thread yet, but will try in a minute. I have DD's dogs here they are great fun, but they did pine yesterday for DD & DSIL, they only cheered up when DS brought my car back after servicing it, DS used to live with DD, DSIL & the dogs, they were so pleased to see him, he stayed for a couple of hours & when he laft they both sat and stared at where he's been sitting. They will be leaving mid-afternoon & I can't see my getting anything OS done before then.
Roast pork for dinner & I'll make pork curry with the leftovers.
Have a good day
Hugs Hester

hello all
Glad to hear of people's good news and (((hugs))) to those under the weather.
Raining here and the 3 towels I put out on the line yesterday in glorious sunshine will just have to stay there.
We also went city centre shopping yesterday - yuck. Too many people in shops which were over heated. I've done most of mine on the internet but wanted to go in as DH was going. Bit of a mistake as I was hot and grumpy! However, I did see a fab book 'Knit for Peace', so dug DH in the ribs and suggested it for my Christmas.
We had 'Sunday lunch' for tea last night as my stepson is going back t5o his mum's this morning and DH is heading off for a week this afternoon. That means easy left overs today.
I've ordered a veg box for this week as I know it will make sure \I eat well. I've been feeling a bit tired out and under the weather since having a stinking cough about 3/4 weeks ago. Just a vague feeling of not being 100% and because |I work with students, there's always a lot of bugs and colds going so don't want to catch the next thing.
Ok, moan over. Sorry!
Take care all
W0
