Oyster recipes.
I have just heard that I may be getting my stick mitts on some fresh oysters. It all depends upon how many a friend sells at her seafood stall today. Last year, we got some and had some 'raw' the others I baked with some cheese I think  I did bookmark the recipe, but that was on my old lappie and I didn't write…

Cleaning jet jewellery?
Does anyone have any tips on cleaning jet jewellery? I have some very intricately carved pieces that I thought I might put on ebay? They had quite a lot of 'gunge', :o , when I looked at them under a magnifying glass. I Googled and followed the suggestions to use a little washing up liquid in warm water and a baby's…

There is a Better Cleaner Than Stardrops
Today I decided to clean out my husband's lunch bag as it was filthy and the plastic was stained with tea and food. I got out the Stardrops and washed it but the plastic remained yellow and stained. I had never compared Stardrops with my other favourite cleaner before butI only wanted to use a J cloth as the plastic is in…

Rice Krispie Squares
We made an attempt at making these ourselves yesterday. Just *melted* down some marshmallows and then mixed in some honey and the krispies. Think I used to many marshmallows this time but they taste nice and are SO MUCH cheaper that 50-odd-p a bar in the shops

Baking without margarine?
I have been baking goodies for the kids lunchboxes and after school snacks for quite a while now but I am becoming concerned about the amount of margarine that recipes specify from a health point of view. Can I reduce the amount of margarine in recipes such as flapjack without it having a significant affect on the result?…

Useless non-cook with some spare ingredients...!
I know this sounds odd, but I have some ingredients in my cupboard I don't use on a day to day basis. I bought them all at some point for a specific purpose and now they're utterly redundant. I am the world's most useless cook. Even with an expert next to me I can throw *their* pre-prepared ingredients for pancakes into a…

Money Saving gone TOO far?
:o Last Saturday I bought 4 baking potatoes which we didn't use. DH threw them in the bin today as the use by date was 16/1. Now today is 19/1 but who EVER heard of potatoes going off in 3 days? Anyway, I fished them out, picked the eyes out and popped them in the oven. They smell fab. Now they're ready to come out. Shall…

Why Ariel? Probably a stupid question!
I've been reading the threads about getting nice clean washing and smell free washing machines and it often says to use Ariel powder as routine. Why is this please? I've trawled through hundreds of entries on the threads and I can't quite gather why Ariel is so much more touted than other proprietary and non-proprietary…

Salmon bones & trimmings.
Hi, as I mentioned on the 'daily' I am now the proud owner of a 'Moby Salmon' I have filleted it...it was already gutted...and cut the fillets into 3 pieces. Now, what can I do with the bones/head/tail and trimmings? I have googled fish stock , but all the recipes I've seen advise against using salmon or oily fish. So,…

I could cry...
Sorry...whinge alert....! Over the last month or so I've really had a fright with our finances. We moved back to the UK in July and bought a house (with hindsight I think we paid over the odds for it but it was in the area we wanted). We knew that it needed work doing to it but it wasn't until the work started that we…

HELP PLEASE ! Jamie's Slow Roasted Leeks with Parpadelle
Was going to make this tonight as we have loads of leeks in the garden but seem to have lost the paper I scribbled it down on. Don't suppose anyone else jotted it down from the 2nd of his new programmes this week?
