Leftover swede and carrots - inspire me!
This afternoon I cooked a chicken with today's date on. TBH I wasn't convinced of its freshness before it was cooked, and on tasting it afterwards I've decided not to use it. However, I'm now left with a pile of cooked carrots and swede. Can you give me some inspiration? Also have some broccoli that I put in boiling water…

Ingredients in Paxo
Hi, anyone out there got a small packet of Paxo Sage and Onion stuffing (85g I think) that they can check the ingredients on? I bought a bigger box (170g) and in the ingredients list is hydrogenated veg oil. I've convinced myself that last time I bought a small box it wasn't listed as an ingredient. Can anyone help?

Food Budget
Hi everyone. Just wondered what you think a realistic food budget for one adult and one child (age 5) should be per month. I currently allow £200 purely for food shopping (incl washing powder etc) but am hopefully looking to cut this down; Im starting to think since browsing these boards that my current budget is a little…

When he suddenly announces - as we're away for 10 days we should switch off the…

Comparative costs of carbohydrate foods
There is a very useful listing of comparative carbohydrate costs per portion on Shirley Goode's blog today : http://shirleygoode.blogspot.com/2007/09/if-price-is-right_26.html So, for example, a portion of potato is twice as expensive as a portion of rice at current prices. Valerie

Fair Trade for British Farmers
Mods - I don't know if this is the correct place to post this but please move/delete if not I live in a very rural area where farming is the majority livelihood. I come from a farming family who have had to try and diversify because of the terrible prices we were paid for beef and lamb. The one remaining dairy farmer, who…

tinned peaches in jam, will it work?
I had some raspberries leftover but not enough to put in my breadmaker to make a batch of jam, then I spied a lonely tin of peach slices at the back of the cupboard. (the peaches are in fruit juice). I decanted the peaches into a tupperware dish, drank the juice and made up the weight of rasps with slices of peach- it's in…

Do I need to start being tight and stop being generous ?
It's in my nature to be really generous , to a fault actually. It's almost like "showing off" I guess. If the school ask for a cake , I always make 5! Mr Frog says I like the praise and it's true , I really love it when it pleases people. Every year at Harvest Festival I make a bread roll in the shape of a mouse or…
