Options
GRRRR what do i do now???

I just got home from work to find the chicken i had defrosting on the side ( normally i leave in the microwave to defrost out the way) 1/2 missing and the rest on the floor. The cat has got to it after i locked her out too, but after i locked her out my DD who's 8 wanted her wellie boots from the room the cat was locked in to and the door has not been shut. i had 2 hours of cooking in front of me for dinner tonight and now don't have the main ingredient. No time to defrost any more and now getting my self very worked up. I do have more chicken i could defrost in the microwave but it is a very old one and cooks more than defrosts so wont be as nice and there not enough time to prepare and cook it all, but feel aggrieved to have to of wasted a whole meal.

i feel like screaming

Sorry, not much help now... but Mum used to leave the defrosting chicken in the microwave (off of course) so the cat couldn't get at it.

Do you have any other meat you can use for your recipe?

Any chance of going to a supermarket and buying a ready rotisseried/fresh chicken?

What were you going to do with it? Maybe we can adjust your receipe?

I normally do use the microwave off to keep the chicken in in while it defrosts but the cat had attacked it once already while i was getting the kids ready for school and one thing after another i forgot.

At least it's less clearing up than the time my cousin's dog ate an entire pack of margarine while she was out all day and he was shut in the kitchen !!!;)

    And the smell!!!

Personally, I would never leave meat out to defrost unless it's for less than 1 1/2 hours. After that time bacteria starts to multiply and if you don't cook the meat thoroughly, may find yourselves with food poisoning.

Can't help you with what to have for tea tonight, but don't waste the chicken by binning it, you can still give the rest of it to the cat.

Angel...what vegs are you planning for dinner?.....can you roast them, about ten mins before cooked make a depression in veg...one for each person and drop in a raw egg, sprinkle liberally with your favourite melting cheese and return to the oven to finish off and cook the eggs...won't be the same as roast chicken but is tasty and will save sacrificing the cat!

:rotfl: Sorry - I know I shouldn't laugh but it is a classic comedy scenario. Mind you I laughed when we'd got a couple of really nice steaks for the barbeque - left them in the fridge and came back to find two guilty looking dogs and no steak:eek:

  • It was for Stove chicken which means i woudl have to go buy fresh chicken ( lots of money) and then take 2 hours to have it ready buy the time i have bought it after i got kids from school and then made it it would be going on for the kids bedtime.
