I'm about to really fall out with my washing machine. I think it's his fault, but it could be my washing powder . . . anyway:
My washing machine doesn't seem to be getting clothes clean anymore and I don't know what to do? All the socks are coming out with grubby soles etc
Here is how I usually wash:
Baby loads at 50 degree with Persil Small & Mighty non bio
Husbands clothes (he works outdoors in mud!) at 50 degree with Persil Small & Mighty bio
White washes at 60 degree with Persil Small & Mighty non bio
I've also tried adding Oxy vanish powder to each wash and it makes no difference.
Also, I've noticed that when dry, the clothes no longer smell of Persil, which they used to.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? Is my washer about to die? (I have worked him hard - he does about 3-5 loads every day  )
Thanks in advance as this is driving me mad

Hi there
your nose get used to smells and then it doesn't register it anymore, so your clothes haven't stopped smelling of persil at all0 -
Have you done a hot wash (60+) recently just to clean out the tubes?
Have you washed out the filter thing at the front to make sure it's not full of junk?
I did both of these recently and definately noticed a difference in the next wash out of the machine.0 -
I will be pleased to hear these answers as i have the same problem although my mum did suggest that maybe i was overfillng it which would mean things didn't have enough room to swish about, unfortunately i am still overloading it as i always have so much to do. I will try it though once the wash mountain has receded slightly.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

Filter - what filter
Can anyone tell me where this would be?? This could be the problem!!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I seem to remember reading somewhere that it helps to occasionally do an empty wash on hottest setting with a bottle of white vinegar poured in through the soap dispenser - supposed to clean out the gunk in pipes, etc. Dunno if it works, tho.Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

the filter is usually at the front of the machine, near the bottom - there will be a flap to open or you may have to take the bottom plinth/cover off (as I do) and there's usually a round bit that you can pull out - this is the bit the collects all the fluff and gunk so could be the root of your problem - have a look in your instruction book if you have it still.
hope you get it fixed!!
must clear my filter too...:rolleyes:Happiness is not getting what you want - it's wanting what you have

There could be a little trap door on the front of your machine. Mine is about 3 inches square, bottom right hand corner as you look at it. Open that and inside I have a tube and a screw thingy (bit like a petrol cap). I pull out the tube and drain the water into a bowl. Do not remove the cap until you have drained the water (do not ask me how I know this.......)
Then you can open the cap thing and look inside. I found a 50p, a 20p and a few rusty nails...... Re assemble and you may need to pour some water into your machine. Check your instruction book (should have said do that first really.....)
I pocketed the money, I knew it wasn't mine as I empty my pockets unlike everyone else.......
I do find doing a hot wash helps as well.
Also as someone else said don't cram so much in, when I read the instruction manual (2 years after buying the machine, like you do......) I was surprised how small a load should be compared with what I was stuffing in there. Definate improvment when I cut down a little. Obviously being old style I don't reduce right back..... but I do now leave room for the water......0 -

i always have bubbles ijn my machine. i use aerial. and i have about 2 or 3 fab con's on the go . so i never get used tot he smell. i never wash above a 40. apart from once a month i will boil the machine through with soda crystal's.
i also only ever fill machine 50 -75%. fill it any more and clothes don't come out as soft or as clean. my machine also adjusts water according to weight of clothing . which is great.0
