Somebody on another forum said powder is far better than liquids, and non bio is useless as you need the enzymes to get the stains out.0

re soda crystals, I put them in the drawer with the tablets - never had any problems with either whites or colours. I think it is also important (however temping) to not overload the machine - you will end up with the detergent residue on your clothes, which wont be clean properly. i dont measure out the soda crystals, probably put between 1-2 tbsp in depending on dirtiness of clothes.0

The filter on my machine is underneath, right at the back, so I have to make hubby his favourite meal and then casually mention that the filter needs cleaning. It's really difficult to get to, and involves tipping the machine backwards as far as it will go.
The old washer had a filter on the front - SO much easier !!0 -

The only thing I've heard about liquids is that they can build up a residue inside the machines if you don't regularly do hot washes. I do a 60 degree wash about once a week and the last time I bought liquid I had some brown stains appear on two of my white washes which I couldn't shift  (they definitely weren't there before they went in the machine). Since I've gone back to mostly powder I've had no problems. I still use liquid for the silks/wool wash but that's quite infrequently.0
