Ive never made pork pie before (would love to have a go though!!) and saw this recipe on the tv Sunday morning - http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/porkpie_87096.shtml
It uses pork shoulder, but im sure you could use the pork mince instead.0 -
Hi there
When i make pork pie, i use pork shoulder...but also mince - you have to finely dice the shoulder anyway...and i find that the mince makes it moister... very nice if you add some sausage meat too...i make it in layers sometimes..
Nothing beats HM porkpie-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Thanks, might have a go! I've seen some a food festival that put cheese in the middle or mix them with apple and things and thought then I'd like to have a go! I haven't got the proper moulds but delia online says she uses muffin tins.0

Just a really thick question, I've been looking at the bbc recipe, it doesn't say cooked pork shoulder so can I use raw meat/mince? Thanks!0

Hi there Halloweenqueen
I always use raw meat... and yes cheese is nice in there..and apple, but i grate mine and mix it in, rather than put it in a layer... its a bit to much for me like that...
You can put a layer of ham through the middle, or bit of nice pickle...finely choppe sauted onion too, layers of stuffing... and then you can start doing layers of game if you like...its endless ...mm now you have me wanting pork pie..
I don't know if the recipe tells you to, but when i have mixed all he meat up ...i always cook a small piece in a frying pan so i can make sure that it has enough seasoning... its amazing how much it needs sometimes
I don'i have one of the proper moulds...keep looking for one , but i want one of the old ones.. i either do a hand raised ones... or i use a spring release cake tin.... then once you think it is cooked, you can unclip it and make sure the sides are crisp
Hope you enjoy having a go....-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Thanks for that - i didn't want to go to all that trouble and have uncooked insides! Didn't think about making one big one, that may be a better idea t begin with - I have a spring release tin. Thanks!0
