Ingredients in Paxo

Options
Hi, anyone out there got a small packet of Paxo Sage and Onion stuffing (85g I think) that they can check the ingredients on? I bought a bigger box (170g) and in the ingredients list is hydrogenated veg oil. I've convinced myself that last time I bought a small box it wasn't listed as an ingredient. Can anyone help?

  • I don't have any myself (it's full of rubbish you know:D ), but Tesco Online cam up trumps -this is for an 85g box.

Wheatflour, Dried Onion (15%), Salt, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Dried Sage (2%), Raising Agents (E503, E500), Sugar, Dried Parsley, Vegetable Oil, Malt Extract (Barley)

I have a 340g pack of Paxo S+O - it simply says 'vegetable oils'. Expiry date is May 2008 so it's not that old.

Well that's odd. I wonder if they've realised that people are now looking out for HVO and they've decided not to list it on the ingredients anymore? I did ring them and spoke to a woman on the catering section who said they were withdrawing the ingredient from the middle of next year.

I think that if HVO is below a certain percentage of the ingredients it doesn't have to be listed separately?

Funny that this thread should appear as I was toying with the idea last night of making my own stuffing using gluten free bread. I have a loaf that I want to breadcrumb and freeze and wondered if any of you have made your own? That way I can add what I like. Might be a thought Soba if you can't find one with ingrediants that you like. I dont mean to hijack your thread.

Hijack away!! I had all the ingredients to make my on stuffing - sage in the garden, bread in the breadbin and onions in the veg rack, but you know how sometimes you just don't want to .....!!

I have seen organic stuffing mix in Sainsburys and I guess that will be 'nasty' free. Going to Morrisons later so will investigate the Paxo mystery further!!

I have always made my own sooooooooo easy
put in any combination of herbs you fancy use packets as a quide.
one christmas many years ago I stuffed 10 turkeys as none of my neighbours couls bare putting theirs hands on the dead bird
I freeze the ends of loaves for this either whole or as bread crumbs so usually hve some ready and add dried herbs if no fresh avaiable.
Taste much better I can instantly tell the difference.

I usually make my own stuffing, but keep a pack of the Sainsbury's organic stuffing mix in the cupboard for the same reasons you've given.

    The ingredients are listed as:
Wholewheat breadcrumbs (84.9%) (Wholewheat flour, water, salt, yeast) dried Onion (10.8%) Dried sage (2.5%) Dried Mixed Herbs.

    Hope that helps! :)

What's wrong with hydrogenated veg oil?

I had some last friday at the MIL's on some chicken, and it was lush! How do you make your own? Is it literally breadcrumbs, herbs and onion? What about the moistness?
