Eating Snails....sorry!

Hi all,
to bring back memories of our first holiday in France I want to cook snails in garlic for my OH on our first anniversary (dating not married!)
I have Emeile Henry snail dishes exactly the same as we ate from over there, but am having trouble finding snail meat (without the shells) and I have no idea what they were served in other than garlic oil/melted butter.
Can anyone help please?!

Hi Skint_Cat,
My youngest son loves escargots and it's one of the highlights of his holiday every year. I too have the shells (he saved them to bring home  ) but I hadn't thought of making them at home.
I had a look online and found this website that might help.

I dont know how quickly you need them but i found this website http://www.frenchgourmetstore.com/escargots/tin_burgundy_snails_escargots_de_bourgogne.htm
wich you can get them delivered from.
Do you have a local market with a fish stall? I know they aren't seafood but a couple of our local ones sell snail meat.

I have seen them for sale in Selfridges in the food hall, also in Harvey Nichols but they would be pretty pricey0

Don't forget the purging (see top of the page), this is especially important as the snails may have had contact with pesticides etc.0 -
Thanks Seakay, but I just couldn't.0

Reminds me of the time we sat down to dinner when I was a child, a meal that included salad fresh out of the garden. As I picked up my cutlery I suddenly realised that a piece of lettuce on my plate was rapidly advancing towards the edge of the plate...picked up leaf, and lo and behold there was a great big snail, making a break for it. It's a wonder it managed to go in a straight line given it had just been spun in the salad spinner along with the lettuceDFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0
