Washing up liquid
I used this trick when I was skint. If you either get that cheap washing up liquid, the stuff that's very thin, or get some of the branded stuff and dilute it half and half with water, you can thicken it right back up by adding table salt so it lasts twice as long. Weird but true. Just don't use it for cleaning the car -…

Pastry - what have I done wrong?
The last few times I've made tried and tested favourites - pies, quiches and flans that we all love, my pastry has been soggy and undercooked on the bottom. I'm doing nothing different. I din't used to bake the base of quiches blind, but even tried that tonight and no - still soggy. Not happy, not happy at all! What am I…

Underwhelmed by Magimix...
We had a bit of wedding money left over and I bought a Magimix 5200 and thought I'd use it loads. But I'm very unimpressed by it. I've tried 3 different recipes for bread - apparently this machine should make professional quality - but 2 sat there stodgy and nasty as they weren't kneaded properly and yesterday's attempt…

Hello , My fist post in Money Saving old syle. I have been offered a very good price on a Kenwood Major mixer . My wife and I occasionally…

Alternative use for body pouffe
So pleased with myself I just had to share it. I had one of those body pouffe's you use in the shower that was starting to come unravelled. So I unravelled it all, tied a knot in the bottom and stuffed all my boy's bath toys into it.:T I just need to find a way of fixing it over the shower head and it will be a great way…

Where am I going wrong? (Yeast dough)
I'm not useless in the kitchen, I'm really not. But when it comes to baking any sort of delicacy that requires a yeast based dough, it all goes horribly wrong. I'd love to make croissants, pains aux chocolat and butteries/rowies from time to time as a special treat, but I just can't. It all goes horribly wrong and ends up…

Own brand washing powder ?
I seem to remember reading a thread about this topic somewhere but I can't find it anywhere. My DS has excema & is very sensitive, he really flared up a while ago & after lots of trials & experiments he settled with Persil Non bio (as well as his creams obviously). When shopping in Asda the other day I noticed their own…

Breadmaker confusion
I've just been researching breadmakers, and the Panasonic SD253 and Morphy Richards Fastbake appear to be bringing up exactly the same details on Amazon.co.uk  Are they in fact the same product?

Cleaning Taps
What's the best way to clean up taps? Our bathroom suite has "brass" coloured taps which are looking a little worse for wear, but instead of paying out for new ones what's the best thing to clean them with to try and shine them up a bit ? Also, what's the best thing for getting rid of stains on stainless steel ? It looks…

no bicarb!
I did a silly thing. I was cleaning with bicarb yesterday and got water in my bicarb tub, it's all gone now! The problem comes here: i am now short of 1tsp bicarb for my cake. It calls for 2tsp baking powder and 1tsp bicarb. Should I just chuck in an extra tsp of baking powder? thanks!
