Underwhelmed by Magimix...

We had a bit of wedding money left over and I bought a Magimix 5200 and thought I'd use it loads. But I'm very unimpressed by it. I've tried 3 different recipes for bread - apparently this machine should make professional quality - but 2 sat there stodgy and nasty as they weren't kneaded properly and yesterday's attempt somehow got in the gap between the dough blade and the middle bit and loads of dough went all over the base of the machine. I had visions of using this every day and loving it - but I'm wondering if it was a bit of a white elephant. Please can anyone suggest things that I can make with the magimix so I' ll fall in love with it again??!!

Aw, kitty, sorry you haven't had much luck in making dough with your Magimix :( Have you checked the instruction booklet to see if (perhaps) you are putting too much ingredients into the bowl?

Personally, I don't use my Magimix for dough :o (have a bread machine) but I do use it for making a whole host of other things :D

I shred, I grind, I grate, I mix, I juice, I breadcrumb ( ;) ) . I have a wonderful recipe booklet which came with my machine - check through yours to see it's full potential!

I wouldn't be without mine, it makes speedy work of many daily tasks! I make cakes, coleslaws, meatloaves, all sorts with it. Don't be discouraged, the trick is to make certain you are not overloading the machine ;)

Hmm... not sure - I'm using the white plastic one with what looks like a kink at the end of one of the blades - is that the right one?

Yes, that's the recommended blade for making dough.

1 whole orange, cubed, pips removed
    250g butter or marg, softened
    3 eggs
    300g SR flour
    220g caster sugar

Place orange in food processor with chopper blade. Blend until pulped.

Add remaining ingredients and process until smooth (try not to over mix).

Spoon into greased 8" cake tin. Bake at 180 degrees for 1 hour.

do you peel it first? I fancy the sound of that.

No you don't, so I suppose un-waxed fruit is best if you can get it. You would never know that the whole orange is in there. The texture of the cake is quite dense and is really good still warm from the oven.

I'm the same as you, Queenie - but the 5200 is supposed to have a new design dough blade, which Magimix describe as "bakery standard"

Magimix's own method & recipe for bread is here.

Kittycat - are you following this precisely as set out in the link above?

Kittycat - to be honest, you'll get much, much more from your Magimix if you use it beyond making dough. It really is a clever little workhorse - especially chopping, grating etc.

Don't be put off by the disappointing dough making - I certainly wouldn't be without mine even if I had to make bread by hand! :D

I have the 5100 and have never tried dough making in that - like Queenie, I use the breadmaker :o
