OS DAILY WEDS 23rd MAY

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning Amie, yellowmonkey and all to follow,

It looks like this insomnia is catching....I've been awake since 3.00am.

I have a quiet day planned. I need to nip into work after I leave ds2 to school to pick up some bits and pieces and then weather permitting I hope to wash the boy's beds, get them on the line and spend some time in the garden. Sorry for going on about it so much but I'm really enjoying it and I now have a baby chilli and flowers on my tomatoes. :j Haribo and I are trying to outdo one another (sibling rivalry, us?) but yesterday I think that we went a bit too far by actually counting how many strawberries we had on our plants! We aren't really competitive.... but just in case you're interested I won! :D

Dd is off on study leave for her AS levels, so it's good to have a bit of company during the day. I really feel sorry for her though, all this lovely weather and she has her head burried in books.

Tea tonight?? No idea, I'll need to go and have a look in the freezer for inspiration.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Good morning everyone

Ugh, can't stand waking up at this time of night! You'd think I'd be used to it by now!!

Last night, for the first time in a v.long time, I wished I had a television to look at. As I w*r* in a supermarket I was itching to see that Whistleblowers programme. I gather some of what was broadcast was rather icky.

Annie, any more word on Phoebe?

I am hoping that it'll be a dry day today as I need to spray the weeds in my garden. It's a complete eyesore right now, but if I'm going to make any progress with it I need to annihilate what's there and start from scratch. I hate using chemicals etc but the bloke in the garden centre assured me that once this stuff is dry it is harmless to birds and little animals. I'm keeping Teddy and Dylan in until the weeds go brown but I hope that no other beasties perish or get ill because of me. Once that has been done I think I'll hire a bloke to dig it over and either put grass seed down, or perhaps even some turf for that "instant" lawn effect.

Remember those seeds I was going to sow? He he so do I! Unfortunately I'm not as good as Pink-Winged and my collection of seeds are still in their packets. Think it's definitely too late for some of them for this year, but I still intend to put some of them in pots on window-sills etc while the garden itself is getting under way.

Ooo look it's almost daylight! Think I shall go and try and produce a few more Zzzzzs...

    Have a lovely day everyone.

Morning all - insomnia here too ! Dunno whether I'll be at work today - DD has a weeping sore ear, presumably an infection, DS has sore throat when he swallows, - both feeling sorry for themselves so I'll see what they're like when they wake up. I have to phone my work by 7am if I'm gonna be off, but they're starting annual appraisals today so i'm not gonna be v popular if I phone  Not posted here for a while, my 87 yo granny's been ill in hospital with suspected stomach ulcer, now they've discovered breast cancer. They sent her home from hospital with no one to look after her so crisis care have been round, they've been great, our dealings with social services have changed our opinion of them. They say she's not eating, not looking after herself, the house is dirty & unhygienic etc. We're saying we know we tried to tell you but as she is (alledgely) of sound mind ..... ANYHOW, stop rambling, hope you all have a nice day, hopefully the weather will be nice today. I'm off to raid my freezer for supermarket meat after last night's programme ! ;)

    Good morning everyone.

I am struggling with my pc again. We have bought a new mouse and keyboard and after the kids have gone to bed tonight I will see if that solves our latest problem. The mouse keeps freezing or dragging really slowly and then not responding and it is a pain.

It's been manic here as usual, LO and I have caught oh's 'manflu' and are both feeling out of sorts. We are both being dosed up with paracetamol and hopefully it will pass in a few days. OH is feeling a lot better though and is back at work.

OS wise - not much too be honest, even the house did not get a hoover yesterday after work and believe me that is a first for a long time. I don't think I will be up to much today either after work apart from sorting out the 3 lo's and getting them up to bed. Tea I think will be a quick pasta dish all round with some garlic bread, LOL or some beans on toast, depending on how I feel.

Anyway I best drag myself off to the shower. (((((hugs to all in need today)))) and I hope you all have a good day.

    Smoky. xxxx

    Good Morning All
I sprinkle crushed egg shells around my plants to keep the slugs at bay & occasionally I put a saucer of beer down.

I cooked a really yummy meal last night, we tend to eat a rather monotonous diet as hubby is such a fussy eater, but he really enjoyed this recipe a friend gave me at work. It was in a national newspaper & came from the BBC Good Food Mag.

    Oven Baked Thai Style Chicken.

Slice an onion & soften in a tbs of oil for about 4 mins
add 3 or 4 sliced chicken breasts
stir in 2 or 3 tsps of Thai green chilli paste
add 9oz rice & stir till coated
add a can of coconut milk & 2 red peppers (deseeded & cut into wedges)
bring to the boil & then place in a casserole dish & cook at Gas Mk 6 for approx 20 mins. I served it with a huge salad.

It's not particularly cheap, but I had the chicken, chilli paste, rice & peppers in so all I had to get was the coconut milk, it would serve 4 normally, but hubby loved it so ate loads & my lodger has a huge appetite, there is still enough for my lunch today.

Hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester
