I am having a friends to dinner type evening Saturday and everyone is really going to town on the courses they are making.
I am doing the fish course and was thinking lobster in some sort of champage sauce (maybe I'll use cava!) dinner party is for 8 so a little worried on cost of this.
Any sugestions very welcome.

If you cannot afford it then choose something that you can.0

I know you said fresh but Tesco's finest range has two frozen lobster tails for $10.0

This is what I know about lobster. ..
Go to M & S when it's our wedding anniversary. buy 1 canadian dressed lobster for about 18 quid. which is a whole lobster in half with a mayo type sause in and king prawns on the top. take out of pack, put on plate and wash it down with a bottle of champagne whilst curled up on sofa watching "love actually"......total bliss!
I have never cooked or purchased one to cook myself before.
Do you think we would need a tail each?
Is the tail the bit with all the meat in?
Do they come in the shell or do tesco just sell the meat part?
Thanks in advance.0 -
July is the best month for fresh lobster (caught round our coast). I don't think it is ever cheap.0

Do you live near the coast? If so, go to your nearest fishing village and see if you can get one from the fishermen direct as they come inComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0

They cost about £8-9 each alive on the fish market here - crabs only cost about £3 each if that's any help - but you do have to cook them yourself.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

My local wholesale fish market sells them for about £10-12 (alive). A fishmonger is probably more expensive if you don't have a wholesale fish market nearby.0

I know you said fresh but Lidl do Lobster (frozen) at a reasonable price.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Sorry, but I think lobster is over-priced and over-rated!
I would rather go for crayfish tails or fresh crab any day - more flavour and much cheaper.
Crab meat with chopped avocado in a seasoned white wine sauce topped with parmesan and grilled - fab! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!0 -
Hi,
The Tesco's finest tails are still in the shell and they aren't especially big. They might be tricky to divide if you also want them to look pretty unless you want to serve the meat out of the tail.
I agree with Angelavdavis, fresh crab is wonderful. I have a fab recipe for crab stuffed mushrooms if you are interested. (Works well with tinned crab too :j )0
