Anyone doing a Macmillan Coffee Morning?
We have got ours at work tomorrow and I have just put a gingerbread traybake in the oven (at least that's what I am hoping it will turn into!!) It's my mums recipe and everyone at work has had it before (made by mum) and loved it... I am a bit scared because that is a lot to live up to! Why do parents go on…

Colelaw and green salad
My son is doing GCSE catering and for next weeks cooking session (they do one week theory, one week cooking) they have 2 hours to do lasgne, coleslaw and a green salad. (Actually less than 2 hours because the teacher does a demo first) I've done a search and found all the useful threads for lasgne, so thank you everyone.…

Slow cookers - useful for veggies?
Another gadget question from me - 10yo dd and i have recently given up eating meat -her idea :D I had been toying with the idea of getting a slow cooker anyway but is it really worth it if i'm not going to be making meaty stews. I was thinking that i could use it to simmer dried pulses and freeze them - would that work?…

Sweetcorn glut - help!!
Have an allotment (v money saving and good fun too!) and am currently experiencing a massive glut of sweetcorn. As we have already had courgette and carrot gluts so far this season I am running out of space in the freezer and inspiration for what to do with things! Any suggestions/recipes very gratefully received!

Another one for the girls
Is there any possible use for the mirrored half of powder compacts, once the contents are finished? I have a dozen of the things, and can't bear to throw them away, but really don't need any more mirrors! (I generally buy powder in the cheaper ranges like Rimmel or Boots 17, so can't get refills, sadly :( ).

Calling all knitters
I can't find a wool braid to edge a mohair jacket I want to make, and think I may have to knit one. I need a length of 6 yards, about an inch and a half wide, and I'd like to use the biggest needles I could get away with. How much mohair yarn do you think I would need?

Corned Beef!!!!!
Having just made a corned beef and potato pie, I was wondering - why oh why does corned beef come in those rediculous shaped tins? The key breaks, or when you wind the tin up it gets into a tangle! Why can't corned beef come in a normal round tin!!!!!!_pale_

OS store cupboard basics
My guess is that there's probably already a thread like this, but I can't find it! I've just been reading the 'feed 2 people for £1' thread which assumes there is no store cupboard. The question is, what 10 basics should OS have in their store cupboard, and where is the cheapest place to buy these? I'll start off by saying…

slow cooker quick questions thread
I have noticed lots of people just want to ask a really simple one answer question about slow cooking. I thought it would be an idea therefore to have a thread to put those questions in, so we can keep them all together in future. So here it is. What are your slow cooker quick questions? :D I will have lots of questions.

A question of toast
Hello my lovely lot, I've just been listening to Janice Long's show on radio 2 from last night (show's how much work I do really) anyway they're talking about toast and the types of toast out there because someone wrote in complaining about the toast you get in hotels. Now there are 2 types of toast that I adore, the rest…

Slow Cooker
I know there are loads of threads on slow cooking, but just a quickie before I rush out and borrow me mums. Some of the recipes (admittedly haven't got very far yet), say to cook in a saucepan on the hob before sticking in the slow cooker. All well and good, I know how to do that, but I get up really early and really can't…

Stinky kitchen cupboard
Have just discovered a mouldy oozy leaking potato in one of my kitchen cupboards! Yuck - I am a revolting, dirty peasant! Have emptied cupboards out, wiped down with stardrops and then scattered some bicarb in cupboard. Only... how long should I leave it for? Will it right itself in a matter of minutes or hours or what?…

Drawers
No, not that kind! Bit of a schoolboy's question this, but I'm renting a room in a house which comes with its own furniture. I've been putting my clothes in the chest of drawers, but they've started to smell weird and musty. Are there any moneysaving things I can put in the drawer to get my old smell back?!! I've tried a…

Slow cooking, poultry and temperatures
I have just read in a slow cooking recipe book (borrowed from the library) that all poultry should be cooked on High to "kill off any toxins that may be present". I am fairly new to this but I have cooked a turkey drumstick and chicken legs on Low with no ill effects. I would be interested in your thoughts as I have a…
