OS way to brighter whites?
My favourite, all white 100% cotton duvet cover is starting to look decidedly grey & dingy. What can I use to get it back to it's original brilliant white? I was sorely tempted to put some bleach in the dispenser drawer of the washing machine over the weekend, but wanted to check with you lovely people first. What do you…

Dairy-free milk chocolate
Does anyone have any simple recipes for making dairy-free milk chocolate? Son allergic to dairy missing out on so many treats! I know there is carob and other substitutes but they are quite expensive, so I'd really like to try and make some of my own, using soya or some other kind of dairy substitute. Cheers

Another question about slow cookers!
I know this one has probably been done to death but thought I would start a thread of my own. My old slow cooker that I got as a wedding present went kaput (I won't reveal why!) and so, seeiing as how I also needed a new steamer (element broke in it - why is it everything always breaks at once!) I invested in a combined…

Freezing potatoes
My family really love spicy wedges which I usually make fresh, but I want to have a 'cooking' day this weekend and 'slice and spice' some spuds then whack in the freezeruntil needed in the next couple of weeks (the theory being I can just stick them in the oven ??) Will this work? Thanks!

Wanted: Idiot guide to making curtains
I am in desperate need of new curtains (moved into a brand new house, and gave my old curtains to the purchaser of my old place to make her sweet) but the price of shop bought curtains would make your hair stand on end  . So, rather than wait for the sales or get cheap ones I don't really like I thought I would make…

Vegetarian Mince (Beanfeast)
Following on from the "more interesting mince" thread, I find I have half a dozen packs of Beanfeast soya mince in the cupboard, and I would be highly delighted if anyone could suggest simple ways to make it taste of something other than recycled cardboard, while remaining vegetarian. Don't get me wrong, Beanfeast is a…

Jamies School Dinners
Just watched this last night, I must say it does seem a disgrace that the schools are only allowed to spend 37p on ingredients for the dinners, I would think it would be impossible to provide a healthy meal for that, anybody got any idea on a healthy meal for 37p

question for people who make bread
do you HAVE to use the strong white/specialist bread flour or are you ok to use ordinary flour? and if you are which do you use - plain or self raising? I have been making my own bread using a combination of strong white flour and wholemeal bread flour - but obviously ordinary is cheaper :D I don't have a breadmaker if…

Sewing Adventure
Last night I managed to tear a MASSIVE hole in the inner thigh on a pair of jeans (no, they weren't too tight, they had frayed and I tried jumping and then there was a loud 'rrrripppp' !!) I was thinking I would be adventurous and try and make something else out of them, perhaps a skirt? Couple of problems with this plan…

More exciting mince recipes
whenever I go to Costco I always stock up on their minced beef, it's the offcuts from their Aberdeen Angus steaks so is really good, when I get home I freeze it in smaller portions. It's used for Bolognese, Lasagne, Chilli-con-carne and Cottage Pie, but the following recipe I use when I've not got much in the cupboards and…

Diet on the cheap and with support
Hi all I am finally getting fed up of being fat and putting my health at risk, I want to lose some weight. I have no body hang-ups and quite like the way I look, so does my husband (or so he says hehee), but I think that for a 5ft.6 heigth, 15 stones is too much to carry. I don't want to go skinny or anything crazy but…

What to do with marrow
Whilst delving through my freezer I found a huge tub full of diced marrow (rather large dice) apart from the traditional jam, is there any savoury dishes I could use this up in? I usually stuff whole marrows but I had rather a glut passed onto me last year which I knew I wasn't going to be able to use up in time.
