Diet on the cheap and with support

Hi all

I am finally getting fed up of being fat and putting my health at risk, I want to lose some weight. I have no body hang-ups and quite like the way I look, so does my husband (or so he says hehee), but I think that for a 5ft.6 heigth, 15 stones is too much to carry.

I don't want to go skinny or anything crazy but would not mind knocking at least 10% of my weight for a start (going down to 13 1/2 stones) for a starter, and then take it from there.

I would like to do it:

Cheaply

Without suffering hunger

As a vegetarian

With support from my friends

Having meals that fit with my family.

Hence, posting here, because I know that other people here will be able to both help and support. In fact, if anyone else wants to lose a bit of weight could we do it collectively and in a supportive way?

    Good luck sweetie!

I really need to go on a diet, I lost nearly a stone a few weeks ago and then fell off the weight wagon and am trying to climb back on but this is not a good time of year to diet (too much chocolate, and then too much reduced chocolate). Anyway I'll be here, reading your update, I can do supportive ("Woohoo...well done, you are sooooo inspirational"), I can do encouraging ("Come on, ten mars bars today isn't going to ruin your diet, pick yourself up and dust yourself off and start again"). I can do tough ("oi Lardy - you aint gonna lose weight eating cheese, come on take the C off Chips and whaddya get?") - I can also do a good Peter Kay impression. (oh and please inserrt tongue in cheek smiley here)

I use https://www.weightlossresources.co.uk as when I am being good (or bad) it is a lifeline...big database of food, food diary, message boards, gives you a calorie allowance and there is a free three-day trial and then payment options after that which are better when compared to convential slimming clubs

Good luck! When are you starting, how much do you need to lose?

    I'm in!

I'm 5'6", 12 stone and a size 14 (which probably wouldn't worry me except that until last year I'd always hovered around 11 stone and a size 12 except in the bust, and now my clothes are starting not to fit). I'd like to get down to 10st (though 10st 7lb is probably more realistically maintainable) without spending too much money!

    Anybody else?

A mate of mine was told to use a smaller plate. It worked for him.

Eileen makes me healthy meals and so it's just eating too much that causes any weight gain. I set myself a goal of 13 stone for next Christmas and I can manage that at less than a pound a week. I've started walking a bit over a mile to the shops and carrying the shopping in a rucksack. When the weather is dry, I have a six mile walk that I do a couple of times a week too. Using this regime, I went from 16st 4lbs to 15 stone at the back end of last year. I tend to "need" more calories in the colder weather, but now spring has sprung I'm back into exercise and a little restraint.

    Hello everyone

I want to join in...but have had a bit of a head start and help from the "I Wanna" board where there is a thread all about losing weight :D . Sorry Caterina if I am stepping on your toes here as I can see you're really keen to get cracking on this.

Caterina, have you heard of the Slimmer's World method of weight reduction? You are allowed to eat all the pasta, rice, potatoes, eggs and pulses you want - no restrictions at all (just v.v.v.easy on the sauces, butter, oil etc!). That might suit you and your family as you could serve the sauces etc separately? You can have the usual normal food :j eg breakfast cereal, bread, milk, wine, chocolate, and so on though in controlled portions and top those that up with all the fruit and veg you fancy. I am following it at the moment (well sort of as I am in N.Ireland and they don't exist over here!) and it really is very easy.

They also have a "referral" scheme whereby your GP can refer you to them for health reasons and you personally don't have to pay for the first 12 weeks, though I am not sure how widespread this scheme is.

Maybe I will see you over on the I Wanna board? The "I wanna lose weight" thread is a sticky right at the top.

    Bye!

    Hi

Great to have already two potential co-dieters/supporters! I really want to lose up to 4 st but cannot even imagine thinking about it in the far future, so I am thinking 1 and a half stone is a 10%weight loss, that would do me for the time being.

I have been on the weightlossresources and got my free 3 days membership but could not find any diet plans, do I have to make them up myself?

Wow I got another 2 responses while I was typing!

Snowy Owl I would be happy to move the whole thread over to the I Wanna Board so not to duplicate the subject. I leave that to your expertise.

Slimming world is good but I am trying to avoid going to slimming classes, resenting the money they charge! I Much rather do it with friends online!

Love to all, maybe see you in the I wanna Board?

The site has already got a dieting thread HERE, it's been running for 12 months and has everything you are looking for Caterina, its one of the most popular threads on the site and people really give each other lots of support and encouragement there,
I'm not sure a moneysaving site needs 2 threads on the same subject icon7.gif

No problem! SOrry for duplicating, this is because I am usually only here on the Old Style board, you are right no need for 2 of the same threads! I am going to the other one NOW!

    Thanks for help!

    Love

just be a shame for you to miss out on the good advice over there, and you should pop out more, maybe call in the Arms for a beer, for some reason the beer in there never adds any weight ;)

see you in about 3 weeks when you've finished reading that thread then :D
