Homemade Bread

I am confused! I have been using my bread maker for a while and the bread has been ok but not fantastic. I was actually thinking of putting it away. The other day I bought a bread mix from Asda to try and it was lovely.
Dose anyone know why I am having no luck with my bread and how I can make it taste better?

It could be down to the flour you're using, have you tried different flours?
I have the opposite problem, bread mixes never work for me, I wish they did as they have some lovely mixes in Asda.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
I've tried different flours and different methods but we all prefer supermarket bakery bread. Haven't tried the packs because it didn't seem money saving and I prefer to buy the least processed option - which the packs ain't! But I'm tempted to try them if they're good - which one did you try Djenks?
The only bread that everybody likes me to make is a Foccaccia (sp?) type loaf - what I need is an everyday, slice it for toast and sandwiches tye loaf.0 -
I'm going to ask my Mum if I can borrow her breadmaker to try it out. There are some recipes I found for breadmaker on the net. If I can find the sites they are on I will post them for you all to have a look at.0

This works for me for an everyday sandwich loaf:
350mls warm water
3 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp dried milk powder
3 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil
2 tsp salt
600g flour
1½ tsp dried yeast
Baked on the standard 2lb loaf setting in the breadmaker.
I use Tesco own brand brown bread flower, Tesco Value skimmed milk powder and Tesco sachets of dried yeast. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I always use Carrs Breadmaker Flour - White.
I prefer the milk loaf which is a lot more solid than the regular loaf made with water (especially when it comes to slicing)
The recipe is
1tsp Yeast (use spoon that comes with breadmaker)
500g Flour
1tbsp Sugar (I use honey)
25g Butter (I use olive oil)
1 1/2 tbsp Milk Powder (Marvel)
1 1/2 tsp Salt
175ml Water
175ml Milk
Because I use liquid fat and liquid sugar ie oil and honey, I then reduce the water by the amount used, so I use 2.5 tbsp oil and reduce water by 2.5tbsp.
This makes a perfect loaf.
I have tried Allinsons and Hovis flour and didn't like either of them.
My mum also swears by Lidl breadmaker flour.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.
