Damaged with bleach - any hope?
My sons navy blue hoody has got bleach on it. The blue on the hood has gone a funny shade of pink/grey. Hubby has come up with the idea of re dying the bleached bit navy but i am unsure as to whether it will dye properly once its been bleached. Have any of you attempted a recovery of this sort? Did it work out ok?

This follows on from another thread asking which is best, cheap eggs or free range. Well, with a couple of hens in your back garden, you can have both! What you need 1) a small shed or coop for them to sleep in at night and lay eggs in during the day 2) food and water put out every day 3) letting out in the morning and…

Colours run in shirt
Just bought a new Ben Sherman checked shirt (Red & Blue on white), I put it if for a wash and missed some dark blue socks that were in the pile of washing. Needless to say that the white colour on my new shirt is now a very pale blue colour. Any tips as to restore the whiteness back to the shirt please?

Cleaning patio stones
Have been in the house for over 4 years and am guilty of never cleaning the patio paving stones. They are grey and quite dirty. Before I go out and buy some incredibly expensive/usless/highly dangerous chemical cleaner, can anybody please recommend a good old fashioned method to get them clean? thanks Maria

Champion your Library?
I know peeps have posted before about the Ol'Style benefits of using your local library so forgive me shouting their virtues also. I'm currently sitting in a library in Mablethorpe, it is about the size of my sitting room at home (the library not Mablethorpe!). It has walk-in internet access and I don't have to be a member…

Making Jams
I have recently become obsessed with all the additives that are in foods and the possible effects on my children. One thing one of my sons likes more than anything is jam. How easy is it to make your own jam, does it keep for a while and do I need any special equipment for making it. Or is it cheaper to buy organic jams?…

Using up fresh fruit
I don't think there's a thread anywhere that discusses different ideas and uses for fresh fruit, so apologies if there is and I missed it, but I thought I'd start one as I'm looking for some tips anyway ;) I've just had a rummage through the fruit bowl to dig out the older stuff and I've found half a dozen yellow plums, a…

fish
Hi I'm not sure that this is the right place, but here goes Recently after an episode of Fat Friends my husband went to the chippy and asked for Fish for the cats. It really is very good and our dog goes crazy for it, too. It did strike me that if you were prepared to remove the bones and were having a bad week it would be…

Pesto!
The other day I opened up a huge huge jar of homemade pesto that my Aunt had given me. I love it on pasta, but OH and DD don't! Knowing how much effort went into making it (Aunt even grows her own basil) I don't want it to end up in the bin like the other jars and I don't want to keep topping up with oil until I chuck it…

Insects in the house
Today we found the first bee of the year in our house. After calming down the hysterical 12 year old that discovered it in his bedroom I used the 'sugar on a stick' trick to put it outside. And then I got to wondering what other non-chemical solutions there were to get rid of insects...and does anyone have any ideas for…

Beer Making Kits-How Easy????
Hi All My hubby likes the occasional beer/ale/stout etc. At present he drinks the cheapie beers from Asda/Tesco..about £1.00 for 4, but he finds them too fizzy and watery. He does like a good 5% beer/lager/ale/stout etc but the cheapie ones are only about 2% and a third of the price. Got me thinking about how…
