I owe it to old style...To do my 1000th post on here.;)
I have some recipes, but please set it straight how many balls of marzipan, one book says 12 the other says 11. One even has eggs on it which I thiught was not right at all.
If I don't get my rear into gear and make one, which is what i really want to do, are there any good ones in the shops(shock! horror!), and do you need to keep them for 2 weeks before eating them? In which case i would not be able to wait that long, i love fruitcake.

I think it's 11.
I was watching "No Angels" on Tuesday and the Ward Sister made a cake and when she brought it in she offered it to the other nurses, glared at one she had a grudge with and said "Judas doesn't get a piece" so as there were 12 apostles minus Judas I go for 11.
Correct me if I am wrong
PS - Catholic school going 8-year-old just told me there were 12 apostlesApril 2006 - £9790.26dr. DFD - March 20110 -
Its DEFINATELY eleven.
Due to Judas betraying Jesus.0 -
The marzipan balls on top of the cake represent the apostles: only eleven this time in total as for understandable reasons Judas is a person non grata so not included.0

I didn't have a clue about the marzipan balls and apostles, but then again I'm not a Christian"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I have just spent most of morning making the Simnel cake from Gary Rhodes 'new British Classics' book, whihc I copied from a friend. It had 225g plain flour in and 3 eggs but no SR flour or baking powder/bicarb. I did wonder at the time. Now it's out of oven it smells lovely, but feels like a brick and hasn't risen at all. Has anyone got this book ? Can any kind sould tell me if it ought to have had some raising agent in it ? I last made it 2 years ago and remember it as really good, but that's all.0
