Following on from the "more interesting mince" thread, I find I have half a dozen packs of Beanfeast soya mince in the cupboard, and I would be highly delighted if anyone could suggest simple ways to make it taste of something other than recycled cardboard, while remaining vegetarian.
Don't get me wrong, Beanfeast is a terrific standby when catering for a veggie husband, but I normally get the Bolognese style and tititvate it (can I say that?
) to serve with pasta. How I came to run out of Bolognese when I'm stacked up with the "Savoury" variety instead, I can't remember. Maybe I had a good idea for it once, but I have slept since then!
Anyway, before I waffle off the page, has anyone succeeded in making this stuff tempting and palatable? The obvious thing is cottage pie, and I usually bung in chopped tomatoes, onion and soya sauce or marmite, but there must be other ways. Thanks for any tips - oh and btw I can't cope with more than half a dozen ingredients or I panic! lol :rotfl:

You can put macaroni cheese on top and bake it as a cheat's version of lasagne. A quick substitute for macaroni cheese is those packs of pasta in sauce. It might not be ultra-cheap but with a pack of each you've got an entire meal out of the storecupboard.
I had to abandon Beanfeast - it did something awful to our tummies and the gas was awful! You know it's bad when even your own farts smell bad ;o)0 -
Oh the wind!!!! I used that stuff a couple of times, there was that much wind in my house you could sail a kite! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Brilliant! And ROFL - I do know what you mean, but you really need to get a cat to blame
.
I have a couple of packs of "Pasta in sauce" looking for a home other than the dustbin - ooohhh I can't thank you enough for that suggestion :A (and I wanted to use that saintly smiley, as I don't think anyone else has yet)
 You do bring out the smileys in me!!! xx :TI haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

You could try turning one into chilli with some tinned toms, kidney beans, cumin, coriander, and chilli of some kind..
if you make it as shepherd's pie or something it's nice if you mix frozen peas in with it.
i sometimes have it plain on baked potatoes too. it's not taht great though.0 -
I thought I would shamelessly bump this thread as I have just bought the Mr A Savoury Mince version for 58p and granted, it may be a touch "windy" it can be jazzed up with veg to make nutritionally fine and mores the point CHEAP meal.

AAAH! Beanfeast :T - takes me back to my student days in the 1980's. I would say use it as a base. If you cook meat dishes - then why not add it a handful at a time to chilli or bolognaise sauces, shepherds pie or casserole. If you are both veggies - then i would say adding it to something else - say nutroast or lentil casserole might also work.

I was going to suggest you add a few sheets of cardboard to give it more flavourI'll get my coat, but not before referring you to this thread on soya mince, to which I'll merge this later.
