£650 worth of damage, worth claiming?
Hi All, My wife recently managed to hit a post and do some damage to the side of the car. I've just got a quote for getting it repaired (assuming I replace the door myself) and it works out around £650. That's if I'm paying for it anyway, I know it can be more if the insurance are involved. I was wondering if it's even…

OH has a Samsung S3 mobile phone which has a micro USB charging point on phone itself. Charges fine on mains power using charger supplied. (So does my more modest LG phone which also has a micro USB charging point). So recently nipped into Halfords and bought the in car charger version for micro USB. Tried out yesterday on…

Stuttering/bunny hopping car!
Hi all, Currently have a problem with our Vauxhall Astra x reg, it seems to be stuttering/hopping in low revs, like when it's pulling away from a junction etc. Since this started happening, our mechanic has looked at it and scratched his head. He has had it in for a full service thus changing the plugs etc, had it in to…

General question about turbos...
It seems that turbos often seem to fail before the end of the life of the car and engine and that repairs are very expensive. I notice that some small cars are being fitted with turbos (e.g. Micra). In general, if you just needed an A to B everyday car, would you avoid anything with a turbo/ Are they more trouble than the…

What time does rush hour end on motorways?
I rarely have need to go on motorways at peak times but will need to get on the M1 southbound at J13 at around 08.45 on a weekday. I would have thought that those commuting to arrive at 09.00 would be off the motorway by thst time - or is that just wishful thinking?! I know the A421 leading to J13 can get very heavy at…

Speed Cameras
Going along a dual carriage way around 65mph and seen a police van which most likely had a camera in the back so quickly reduced my speed hopefully it was enough. Is the national speed limit still 60 and if you receive a ticket is it points/fine. Hopefully if I was just over 60mph I won't receive a ticket. Thanks, Garcon.

Reclaim Car Tax
Evening I have arranged to Pt Ex my car for a new one, but not sure if I am allowed to reclaim my Car Tax. It has around £150 left on this, as the garage asked how long it had left. Am I entitled to do this or does it depend on what the garage says?

VW expert please
Tell me how to work the lights on a new Polo I have just hired. The head lights are on in the off position and I cannot get the switch to turn on the fog lights! Must say the DAB radio is pretty useless too! difficult to find stations, the scan mode misses them, and reception is poor. This is on DAB and FM.

Claiming from the council
Today I had the pleasure of gaining a puncture from a central reservation bolt. Not only did it ruin the tyre but has also gone through the wheel (which isn't repairable) resulting in a replacement required for both. Around £550. Do I have a leg to stand on here or is it tough luck?

Driving without insurance
Good morning, (only just) My fatherinlaw was stopped in March and issued with an on the spot fine and penalty for driving without insurance. He still has no insurance, and is due to appear in court next week. Would any body know what the maximum/minimum penalty would be? May I add that I am not condoning my fatherinlaws…

Fiesta humming noise at speed
Ford Fiesta Mk7 1.6TDCi 58 reg with 97k miles. For about the last 20k miles I've had a humming noise at speeds above 50mph or so. Been coming and going but it's worse now. It seems to start quiet and increase in noise up to about 60mph, it decreases in volume once you go faster! Sounds like it's coming from the front of…

Scrapping/Selling Car
My car is probably coming to the end of its life. It's done well (16 years old, and always fairly reliable), but it's soon due an MOT and has started playing up. Given that I think I've recently reached the point where I'm using it so little that I might save money NOT having a car, I've decided that if it fails the MOT…

Do I have a claim?
I bought a secondhand Mercedes on June 26th from a dealer and less than two weeks later it developed a fault which turned out to be the Head Gasket. I contacted the dealer and they said the car was sold without warranty which to be fair, it said on the sales receipt, and they offered me £200 towards the cost of repairs.…

Fiesta throttle body
Had a problem with my '02 plate fiesta for around 3 months and had someone take a look at it today. He says he's 95% sure the problem is with the throttle body & said it's going to be £380 to fix! First question is this seems a bit steep? Second question, is there anywhere I can source one from myself at a cheaper price &…

Astra mk5 Horn Fault Diagnosis CIM
Hi, My 2005 Vauxhall Astra has developed a fault. The Horn suddenly stopped working, was never intermittent. No other visible problem, fuse is fine. The CIM 'recall' clip was put on, in 2011 by the way. Today I did the 'Pedal Test'. No code came up. None at all, and i did the test properly. I wondered if anyone might know…

Are they a good company to use or should I stick with the AA? How…
