blown turbo
Hi all 3 months back i bought a car with a loan for my son for
£3500 from a well known local garage normally sells high end stuff.
anyhow it was posted on ebay and was described as being as one of
the best px they have ever had ford focus c max 2006 turbo diesel.
so i went down there had a look was not aloud to drive it looked
great asked for the paperwork all looked good he then said to me
that he wouldent normally sell this type of px to the public (normally
trades to another dealer or auction) but being such a nice example
and so well looked after they wanted to get max out of it.
anyway i went ahead and bought it 2 months later the turbo blew
clouds of smoke etc had towed to a garage where its been sitting now for the past month. iv'e searched around and it's about £1000
to repair. i've spoken to the garage who say not there problem.
emailed the manager no reply.
any thoughts
all the best

Is it the 1.6 PSA unit?0

If the fault happens during the first 6 months after buying the vehicle, then with the Sales of Goods Act, it's up to the dealership to resolve the fault or prove that the turbo failed due to misuse. I suspect they won't be able to prove the latter, but it might take court proceedings to get them to listen and act.
As above, is it the 1.6 turbo diesel model? If so, they're prone to turbo failure and after the first turbo goes they usually fail again when replaces shortly after. All your base are belong to us.0 -
If it is the 1.6, then reject the car and get a refund rather than accepting a repair, as Retrogamer said they are known for it. Add to that possible future DMF and DPF problems on top of the turbo issue happening again.0

You can reject faulty goods for refund within 'reasonable' time (set to change this year to a fixed term of 28 days) - 1/4 year later is well beyond what would be considered reasonable! So if it's cheaper to repair, they can reject this request.0 -
What is the cars mileage?
It really comes down to whether it's faulty or just worn out. Especially bearing in mind the car is 7 years old.0 -

By the way, the days the flywheel would last the lifespan of the car seem to be long gone. For many Fords, many people would consider a DMF lasting 100k miles to be good.
Some DPFs are actually self-regenerating rather than filters. In which case the filters is usually about the £250 mark (less at a local garage). There are arguments for this offering value in terms of lessor emissions, greater efficiency and a cleaner engine - but this I guess, is one that can be debated til the end of day.0 -

It shouldn't matter as it failed in such a short time.
The Sales of Goods Act states that goods sold must be fit for purpose and last a reasonable amount of time. As it's failed under 6 months then the OP should have some come back.
If / when it's fixed i'd recommend moving onto another car instead if possible. All your base are belong to us.0 -
Although as sid several times, They should be fixing it at no cost to you.
But if thats not going well you can get it repaired for a fraction of the amount you suggest its going to cost.
Pick a turbo up for under £200 and £150 to get it fitted easily. Possibly even less.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
