Penalised For Being Honest!
Options
Car insurance....outrageous " admin charge"! I am with The Halifax and called them today regarding a letter they sent advising me that when my insurance was due to be automatically renewed ( another rip off ) the premium would be reduced.....oh really?
I was told they could not give me a figure until 28 days before the renewal date and that I would be notified in writing.
While I was on, I told them I had recently retired, hoping my new status might mean cheaper insurance..big mistake. No reduction on the premium and to add insult to injury....to amend the details on the policy there would be an admin charge of £25 payable immediately. Totally outrageous for a simple job which would take a couple of minutes tops. After a pointless argument, my card was duly debited. This charge cannot be justified and I will be asking them for a detailed breakdown. Absolutely disgusting and yet another example of being penalised for honesty.

Penalised for being honest? No.
Payed the correct, and no doubt advertised, fee for notifying them of a change to your details? Yes.
Many insurers are doing this now. It's unpalatable, but they will have notified you of it. You don't have to stay with them.0 -
Normally, "retired" will increase the premium, as you have more time to be out in the car, and are exposing it to the "daytime ditherers" rather than the "get to work fast" commuters.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

That's why you say how many miles pa you will use the car for. Roads quieter during day, no more miles, therefore lower premium? No, any excuse to screw you as usual. There is no increase in risk, just another excuse to line their pockets. Thieves in any other language!!0 -
These days its standard practice to charge an admin fee.
Not sure what you mean by being penalised for being honest.
You would of had to notify them anyway, because if you had an accident, the fact your circumstances had changed would of given them the right to refuse pay out, apart from 3rd parties.
So £25 for them to amend your policy details is cheap compared to, I expect the value of your car.0 -

Even if your premiums are decreased by limited mileage.
The fact your circumstances change and this happens to increase your premium.
You will still get a discount for limited mileage. But the discount will be from a higher premium. So you will obviously pay more.0 -
I'm with NFU and dont have any admin fees for changes, so i can add people on and off the policy when necessary, or add/take off business cover when necessary for work...0

Surely commuters rushing to work or tired at the end of a hard day expose you to a higher risk than the so called daytime ditherers.0 -

His does the value of ops car make the fee value for money.
This is a mere administrative excerise for them. Hardly a change that would make the risk much higher! We know that, they know that and for some reason we seem to be more a accepting of ridiculous charges.0 -

Where there are daytime ditherers, there's usually WVM overtaking on a blind bend on his way to his next job.
But also, statistically the unemployed are MUCH more likely to have an accident.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
