Neighbour broke car, won't pay
I lent my car to my neighbour while we were away for Christmas, when I came back I found that he had broken the key off in the ignition (he didn't tell me until I came home), tried to fix it himself, and towed the car with steering lock in the snow. I got a mechanic onto it, and he said the cost to replace the ignition…

AA Breakdown cover
Last year, I joined the AA via the internet at a special rate of £11.67 for newbies. This years quote came in at £19.30. So I rang their Freephone number and said "Its gone up £8 per month, can you do anything ?" Within a minute, the nice lady came back with a discounted £12.54. If you don`t ask.....................:T

Car insurance claim window about to expire...
Hi all, looking for some advice here! In August I reversed into a car at very low speed causing minimal damage (aesthetical only). I was due to sort out the damages with the guy I hit without involving insurance, and after several unsuccessful attempts at contacting him, he decided he was going to take it through…

Scooter battery going flat.
I bought a 125cc scooter in October, it's been OK except I thought the ignition switch was dodgy as it needed to be pressed gingerly halfway in to start it. I had been kickstarting for a while as well. Then one day it wouldn't start at all. AA man got there and jumped it and the switch is actually fine - just needed more…

Buyers rights with Trade Seller?
Hey guys, hoping I could get some advice on an issue I have with a car I bought under 3 weeks ago from a trade showroom. While test driving the car (Honda HRV), I noticed 2 problems, one was a knocking noise from the rear when moving off slowly while turning, and the other was a judder on the brake pedal when coming to a…

Brake Pads on a Citroen C1
Hi, My partner brought a brand new Citroen C1 in July and despite some initial issues (dealer we bought it from tried to scam him for all he could get) he's quite happy with it. It's done approx. 5000 miles and since the bad snow last month the brakes have started making a 'grinding' noise. My partner reckons these are the…

Will I be able to drive?
I am having an operation on my left foot on Thursday. I am taking Thursday, Friday and Monday off work and starting back again on Tuesday. The consultant, when I saw him, said I'd need two weeks off, but I can't see why. I can just as easily sit on my butt on my office chair, as sit on my sofa at home. And at work, I have…

Today waiting outside school was…

Have I been sold a battery unecessarily?
Today, I was visiting someone away from home and my car wouldnt start when I tried to drive home. My friend tried to use jump leads as by mistake earlier, I had left my lights on for about an hour before I noticed so thought that the lights being on had drained the battery (although we discussed that surely leaving lights…

Nissan Note (2009) Any Good? (Or What a About a Renault Modus?)
We are currently looking for a 'new' used car and have found a couple but are leaning more towards the Nissan note because of it's good size. The modal we have seen is a Nissan Note Visa 1.4 Petrol (2009/59 Plate) But is it any good? Other cars we are considering are a Renault Modus (strange car, I know) and possibly a 5…

Garage repair costs
Just trying to pre-empt a situation that may or may not arise tomorrow. When a garage quotes you for car repairs and it takes them longer than first thought can they then charge you more more after the work is completed without consulting you first? I wouldn't have thought so as the garage should have the experience in…

New to motoring...tax disc question
I bought a car 10 days ago from a dealer, noticed on the way home it had no tax disc - my fault for not asking / noticing that. I sent off the V5C document to become the registered keeper, and need for that to be returned in my name before I can buy a tax disc, to avoid it being sent to the previous address. A week on, no…

noise when braking
Hi My Vauxhall Vectra has begun making a noise when braking. It seems to be there when braking gently to a stop, doesnt seem to be impacting on braking times. Its coming from the front. I had new tires fitted today so had a look and the pads and discs, whilst worn, seem ok. The noise itself does sound like the noise you…
